Agreed .. but worth the extra £40.02 for the 5 year warranty.
If this is indeed the model coming soon to John Lewis?

that is if they dont send you the wrong tele, then ****** you about for 2 months while they try in vain to replace it whilst telling you not to use the 50 inch monster they mistook for a 40 inch , like they did to me :x

£40 for a 5 year guarantee.
is it fully comp or just the usual JL limited repairs up the the original value paid service?

I just wondered if it was their standard 5 year limited warranty or it was their premium one.
as their premium one is an in home service, unlimited repairs (or replacement, whatever is more economical) and covers accidents and mishaps, not just breakdown.

I agree that 5 years cover isnt bad at all for £40.

personally if I was going for anyone's cover, it'd be Richer Sounds.

good value, an in home service and not just repairs up to the value you paid.

the way the free 5 year one works is that if it breaks down and your repair costs, including if they have to pick it up from your home come to say £350 on a £500 tv set, you've got £150 worth of guarantee to last you the rest of the time.
Something else happens to your screen and if the repair value exceeds the £150 you've got left, you'll be offerred a partial refund or money towards a new screen based on how long you've had out of the existing one.
depending on how long that is, you might not get much.
if its uneconomical to repair the TV in the first place (before the original £350 job), they'll replace it with something of the same value.
what I don't like is in their T&C it says that you may have to pay for the repair and then claim it back through them.
since it takes around 4-5 days for them to agree to even price match something, this claiming money back for repairs puts me off right away.

I know with Richer Sounds, they even loan you a set while yours is away.

I never thought this free limited warranty was the gold at the end of the rainbow that it gets portrayed as on here.

its all a little too hazy for me.
they don't seem to have any definite turnaround time set.
could you be without your set for weeks? months?

However you would need to pay for anything required to repair any fault after the intial one year manufactures warranty expired.

ha, it depends on if you're one of those "I'm covered for 6 years with the sale of goods act, I don't need your extended warranty" folks!
gotta love those idiots!
try proving that your product had an fault from the day you bought it, cos after the first year, its up to you to prove it

Sure I fully see your point, especially if the TV itself is a bargain.

Personally tho, I'd still rather go to somewhere like Richer Sounds and pay for a good quality cover

The only problem seems to be when Richer Sounds have offers available .. most are only available in store by the time one finds out about them. :x

Even if you have a RS branch near to you ... the only stock they have may be open boxed or ex-display units.

Aye very true, in this case, who knows what the stock of this unit will be like with JL, it is a clearance sale which according to their site, may include ex display stock

this 40B550 model is only £575 inc vat at costco and that also includes 5 yr warranty

Is anything is stock on this yet? No electricals, no fitness... :-(

I was in Currys digital on Monday.

Their last Pioneer 37 inch KLR37 was on display for £699. They quoted me £229 for their 5 year cover. Claiming it was the best in the industry. Had to skip past the kitchen and other pages cover to find the tv small print.

Seems to be £649 on Pcdirect with no warranty. Probably still a good model vs the Samsung at £599 if you can buy one.

Dixons, currys and PC world (DSG) are all hugely at risk from this credit crunch as they all own huge stores which are doing poorly. Even Comet is struggling.

In contrast Richer sounds shops are small but high volume selling at prices close to markets cheapest. I dont see Richer Sounds going under. For hifi parts/ tvs they are probably one of the best retailers to buy from. John Lewis is probably in a similar boat.

I am sick of firms trying to charge huge amounts for warranties. :x

To reiterate what payless said on page 2, the 550 series 5 is £575 at Costco with 5 years warranty.
Does any one know what the difference between the models are?
The 550 is 1080p with 24fps...

Just adding to the above, price only valid until 5th July, however has been this price since 8th June, considered it ourselves but perhaps a little big for our room

"IStrangely enough I was told that the 2 year Humax warranty was [B]NOT
applicable to any Humax products purchased from Argos.

What about that EU ruling or whatever it is that says products sold here must carry 2year warranty?

Doubt it has any condtions attached that allow Argos or Humax to reduce this to one when they bulk buy
#24
I've ordered a tv from them and was very impressed with their efficient and fast delivery. I would not hesitate to order on line again

The EU directive doesn't change existing UK law, according to Eversheds, who ought to know what they're talking about:

Can anyone clarify, which is better?

Samsung LE40B550

or

Samsung LE40B530-P7 40" full HD 1080p LCD TV(the one in this thread?)

And not just which is better, but pros and cons for each.
