Seems expensive compared to other whisky. However, one needs a bottle to pull out of one's ruck-sack the next time one is in a British 1950's World War Two film.

This one's for Johnny!

Johnnie Walker are the kings of overpriced whisky. Plenty of good deals on better scotch floating around at the moment.

Still, if someone enjoys it...

I guess it depends then, does he drink it neat or with mixers like coke or ginger ale?

If he's going to add mixers to it, you're safer with a blended scotch. If he likes it neat or on the rocks, go for a single malt.

Whisky is a personal taste thing, so sorry but this list is based on mine, which is lighter speyside/highland malts.

It's not Amazon but in Tesco, The Glenlivet 12 year old is £20, and Highland Park and Old Pultney are £25, both 12 year old.

If you can only get it from Amazon:

Malts

Old Pulteney 12 yr old - £23 (Prime) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Old-Pulteney-Year-Bottles-Whisky/dp/B001HUA7N2
AncNoc 12 yr old - £30 http://www.amazon.co.uk/anCnoc-Year-Highland-Single-Whisky/dp/B003UMOHT0
Glenmorangie 10 yr old - £25.70 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Glenmorangie-10-Years-Old-Whisky/dp/B001LM1FKU

Blends

Chivas Regal 12 year old - £28.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chivas-Regal-Year-Old-Whisky/dp/B00439UD6K
Old Smuggler (not tried but heard its OK) £11.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Old-Smuggler-Blended-Scotch-Whisky/dp/B00EN2D4S6
Monkey Shoulder - £24.45 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Monkey-Shoulder-Blended-Malt-Whisky/dp/B001P4YYI4

For your regular blends like Grants, Bells, Teachers, Famous Grouse, Whyte and MacKay, you're almost always going to be better off buying them in the supermarket at this time of year.

Just my personal opinion. Have a look for a guy on youtube called Ralfystuff. He does some good whisky reviews. The guy is like my best mate at this time of year.

No worries, glad it was helpful. I usually go for malts but Chivas is one of the few blends I actually quite like, so that's a good choice IMO :) Its a 12 year old blend, so all the malt whiskies in it have to be 12 years old at the very least (they can be older). I think it helps with the flavour. If you're going to get a blend, get one with an age on it.

Its £20 in all the main supermarkets too if you have any nearby or are able to get to them.
