Please be gentle and don't flame me, first post and really hope it's not been put on here before,
I upgraded my o2phone last September and was gutted when a few months later they announced they were going to be doing the iphone. Tied into 18 month contract so i would not be able to upgrade until Feb 2009 at the earliest, however have just found out that i can get an iphone now and not have to pay off the remainder of my contract!!!
Ok so it won't be for eveyone and of course it's dependent on you igning upto a new 18 month contract but i'm sure some people out there may find it a good deal.

From the o2 website

How do I upgrade to iPhone?
Consumer Customer Upgrades

You'll need to start a new 18 month minimum term contract and pay for your iPhone handset but you can keep your existing number.
If you became an O2 customer or upgraded on or before 18th September 2007
You can switch to an O2 tariff for iPhone without paying any remaining monthly charges on your existing contract.

If you joined or upgraded after 18th September 2007
You have a choice, you can either:
(i) enter into a second pay monthly contract whilst keeping your existing contract; or
(ii) start a new contract by paying a one-off transfer charge of £219 instead of the remaining monthly charges on your existing contract.

O2 Simplicity and O2 Pay & Go customers will not be required to pay any additional charges.

why not get a iphone unlock it and stay with ya contract so ya not losing out on another 18 months stuck with them?

cause ya will still have to pay the £260+ upfront and then be with them 18 months or and in a couple of months there new iphone is bound to come out. then ya will be in the same boat as befor.

sorry i vote cold

ALSO

(i) = pointless and might as-well get one unlocked

LOOK at (ii) £219 is that on top of the cost of the iphone via 02 ??????? which is another £260+ OMG if thats what they is saying

well he can re-boot his iphone to original software and they will never know. and why unlock it when hes got it on contract. just dont sign up to the contract and then unlock it.

the only reason to unlock it is so ya dont have to have the contract and can use any sim.

ya m8 sounds a bit dumb if he unlocked it when he had and was paying for the real iphone contract with O2

Email ya m8 the link to the iphone post on this forum and he will find out how to restore his iphone back to normal and sort it out

Just remember that the NEW iPhone is rumoured to be laucnhed inthe states in June so if you really wasnt an iphone why not wait till then and see if the rumours are true. Which seems to be VERYVERY likely

but your contract will be with cpw o2 not the actual network so ya may not be able to do it.

AND
rumors about the iphone hitting europe first seem to be going around as it wont need approval like it does in the America.

Might be here really soon 60 days according to

Walt Mossberg casually yet confidently mentioned that the iPhone will be going 3G in 60 days
