Could be useful for someone like myself who managed to snag the amazing Xbox 360 deal at Toys"R"Us, but only has one set of component inputs on their TV occupied by the Wii. If only it had HDMI as well, then it'd be perfect... Maybe they're selling this one to make room for an HDMI model?

£49.49 at ChoiceUK with 5% Quidco too!

Damn, thought I'd stumbled upon a good offer there!
Still, 5% quidco makes it all the more tempting... Still wish it had HDMI though...

Could anyone tell me exactly what this does and why i would want/need one?

Cheers

It allows you to hook up lots of component or S-Video inputs, together with optical inputs, and ethernet inputs.. so that you can switch what you are watching..rather than having to change cables into your TV etc.

If you have too many devices to plug into your TV, then you can connect them all to this box and then switch between them without having to disconnect one and reconnect another every time to want to use something different.

It doesn't support devices that use a SCART cable or an HDMI cable, but will support Component (Red/Green/Blue) cables, Composite Video (Yellow cable), or S-Video cables (9 pin connector).

Particullarly useful for people that have more games consoles than they probably should have, but have a TV with only one Component video input.

Please note that this (or any of the other joytech component switchers) DO NOT work with the Wii :-( ... If you have a Wii, you are better off with this http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-n-49-en-15-multi%2Bconsole-70-1smg.html

Whilst this was true, they have a fix now. Basically I called the joytech support line and explained the problem with my Wii and they send you the fix in the post free of charge, an inline resistor that you plug in to the green input (on whatever input you are using your wii on) and it works just fine. Ignore the supplied instructions that tell you to put it on the green output!
SO basically it did have a problem with Wii component but they have fixed the problem.
Looks good, works great, great price here (I paid about £90 for mine when it came out). Plus you can rename the inputs and they show up on the from LCD, and if you stand it upright (like a 360) the text turns so you can read it downward!

Well thats certainly good news ... Last i heard despite many complaints, Joytech refused to resolve the situation. QUOTE : "The 540C was made before the Wii came out, therefore, is incompatible with the Control Centre. There are no released plans to make another Control Centre, or to pull this one in, and make it compatible with the Wii" - I guess the amount of Wiis being sold has made them see sense :whistling: ...
