This has been on before at a slightly higher price & has been on sale (given away) at HMV ages ago. May pay to wait till tomorrow in case it's in the sale. Probably get it before Christmas as play usually ships things over £50 by 24 hour courier even if they've reduced the price.

Good if like me you've a 360 and Wii with component cables and only one component connection in the TV. Contrary to popular belief HDMI is not the be all and end all for HD connections. Also good as it makes it easier to make connections to a TV on the wall as it goes through this box.

This also has 10/100 ethernet which is also good for blu-ra , hd-dvd and sattellite box connections to the internet.all via the one box.

Unfortunately the reviews on the 540C are not too good indicating considerable degradation in picture quality plus incompatibility with Wii (although you can get a mod from Joytech apparently) - Scoobie

So heat :) for good deal price but please be wary about product.

great price for a really handy box. Works absolutely perfectly on the 360 that it's designed for. People whinge on the forums about the wii problem yet seem to forget it's called the XBOX 360 Control Centre! lol

Yeah I noticed that too. It's the reason I didn't get one when they were £90.

The wii dongle is supposedly just a resistor on a cable for those who need it. General picture degradation seems to be subjective, arguments over HDMI, component, VGA quality etc. I personally found 360 better on VGA except I can't play original xbox games through it, main reason for getting this.

Figured it was worth a chance as some of the reviews said they didn't get a picture.. which I read as either I didn't know what I was doing or had a faulty unit, could be used as a cheap network switch if nothing else.

i have had this for over a year mainly for its optical imputs and i did have the xbox on it with no probs ( i paid £50 for it at the time)

I got one when they where on sale in HMV, handy if you have a lot of AV equipment and only one digital input on your amp.

Lucky. Supposedly £5 or £10 when HMV had them.

Found the product page, has the manual etc. for more info:

A good review from trusted reviews (9/10). Also says the latest ones have the Wii fix built in so no need for a dongle.

Actually a very good deal! This is hot.

This does work on the wii. You need to contact Joytech directly and they will send you a free connector which will sort out the wii problem.

The only reason this is now so cheap is because a new version for HDMI is out.

so still hot.................

This is an excellent piece of equipment, I've been using it for over a year and it's very useful. I don't have HDMI on my plasma, that's why I bought it. Works well with all my consoles including Wii. For the really hardcore though, there is a slight degradation of picture quality but that's just a compromise you have to make if you don't want to keep swapping inputs. You won't notice it unless you do a quick comparison.

Thanks OP, just ordered.

I only want it to replace my manual optical switch, which was the same price as this.

ok all this tech jarggan is much for me

so u can connect more thing thro ur xbox by the souds of it?

yes? no?
#12
it appears that you use an xbox 360 cable just to connect to a television? and 'output' all devices through the box. Why it has an ethernet hub in it confuses me, as switches are superior.

I had one of these and to be honest I thought it was a joke item.

The 360 had terrible picture and sound degredation, and the Wii would only display a picture for about 2 seconds out of every minute. Contacting joytech for the Wii adapter is not the painless process people portray here either, after lots of umming and arring I got them to agree to send me an adapter which would of taken about a month and a half !!!!! according to them

I sent it back of course but lost @£7.00 out on postage, curse you play.com. Anyway about 2 months!! later joytech contacted me and told me they now had the adapter ready and do I still want it... i told them i didn't need it anymore because I had thrown their rubbish item in the bin.

I stand by telling HOTUK'ers to avoid this **** item at all costs.

What should I be asking for then?

Ive had mine for about 18 months and cant fault it. There is no noticable lose in picture quality (and thats when displayed on a 50" display). HOWEVER as has already been said you need to phone Joytech to get a green transister to get a reliable picture from the Wii. Also DO NOT connect the 360 using the all in one 360 connector that comes with the Control Center, as that is dire - just bin it. Instead use the usual component cable that came with your 360 and the picture will be fine. All the optical and ethernet inputs work a treat too.

Basically there is nothing wrong at all with this piece of kit, so long as you do your homework first. That said i do agree with Joytechs slowness in getting the Wii adapter out. I got mine unexpectedly a few months after they said they didnt supply them anymore. Although it didnt bother me cause i have the Wii connected on a seperate input on my Pioneer AV reciever anyway. However, scouting the net at the time it is relatively straight forward to buy something similar at most electronic outlets.

Not had the best experience with this. Used component instead of the bundled thing for 360 and it improved it but awful problems with Wii. Now sits there unused.

I'd use your monster 360 component cables to connect the 360 to this box. This suposedly comes with leads to connect the output from the Joytech to your TV's 'component in'.

I'd only use the propriatory connection for the XBox if I ran out of component connections, not likely unless Santa brings me a PS3. :santa:

FYI: you should read up on engadget about monster cables dodgy selling techniques and massive over pricing.

Also Play have sent mine by courier as expected so it should arrive by Tuesday so any ordered Sun/Mon could still arrive before the holiday.

@ANTDAV they're not out of stock.

I wouldn't really think it would make an awfull lot of difference. Do you have something against hubs?

I had exactly the same sort of experience. How a company can release a piece of equipment with so many faults is amazing really. If you like a gamble then give it a go!

Just popped into Toys 'R Us to pickup their 120GB HDD as posted elsewhere on here when my brother spotted one of these sat on the reduced counter.... paid the princely sum of £7.50 and whisked it away.... Gotta be worth a gamble at that price.....

Check out your local Toys 'R Us for a potential 'superhot deal'..... :-)

Big thanks to OP for bringing my attention to this product.....

Mine arrived, the Wii works fine, the 360 does look worse through component and better if I use the cable Joytech supplied. Still a very very slight ghosting if I look close but not significant.

Buying a piece of AV kit for £14.99... nice...dropping the HD LCD onto an amp scratching the panel deeply and killing loads of pixels while connecting the component cables hopefully for the last time...priceless.

Time to ring the insurance company.
