I'd expect any Seiko with the 7s26 auto movement to last well over 10 years with no servicing at all... they are renowned for it.
You can even calibrate them yourself if they run too far off.
Biker Jeff
Auto's are mostly bought by people that have an interest in watches.... and like myself they invariably also have quartz watches as well.
I have a couple of auto's, a Monster and an Orient Mako. I just like the traditional build of a mechanical movement, there's just something cool about it being old school clockwork with springs & cogs. But they're only worn occasionally so I don't really care that they don't have quartz accuracy.
Watches aren't an investment to me, so I don't buy expensive ones. This also has the bonus of not having to spend xxxx£ on servicing and after 5 or 6 years they become disposable if they break.

That and there's so much uninformed guff, and pointlessness to some of the supposed "premium" watches many tout.

I've had a Seiko 5 for about 10 years. It's similar to this one, but isn't particularly small. Blue face, and I've got a similar type strap fitted to the one in the picture. Thing is, it just keeps on running. Sure, a quartz watch is probably more accurate, but unless you've got a watch that syncs it's time automatically, you're always going to have to - I've got several watches that do automatic time sync (also solar) and it's nice not having to worry about them - but all the rest, Kinetics, solar watches without time sync, and just normal quartz watches, I sync them all to one of my watches that does atomic clock syncing.

Out of the lot of them, the most accurate, are my Seiko solar divers, and my Edifice watch, my Kinetics aren't bad, but drift (gain) just marginally more).

I wouldn't buy the watch in this deal, or any of the variants of this model, because they are just too small for me.
I and other family members have had Seiko 5s for around a decade. My father wears his daily. Occasionally he syncs the time with an accurate source - just like people will need to do with quartz watches.

Personally, I have four Seiko kinetics (and the Seiko induction charger), a Seiko solar divers, a solar atomic G-Shock, solar atomic Casio, an Edifice, several Rotary quartz watches, and I still am happy to have a Seiko 5.

They're robust, long lasting, and fuss free. Most of my kinetics have required more attention than my 5. I suspect most who own Seiko 5s are getting a decent mechanical auto, that would probably take notable factors in price to get a comprehensively superior auto.

Cheap automatic watches - none of the advantages of a quartz watch, and all the drawbacks of a manual watch. Why would you? oO

The 7S26 movement is thoroughly decent. Maybe not the last word in accuracy, but can normally be regulated well. The movement is used in many Seiko models at notably higher price points, and whilst more expensive automatics may have slight advantages, it's a pretty damned robust movement too.

I agree that there's nothing wrong with the movement - it's perfectly functional. My point is, though, that whilst something like a Rolex or a Breitling might have some investment value (though that plan could go badly wrong) a Seiko like this will never appreciate in value.

Given that there's no investment value, an automatic movement adds nothing to a watch. It's less reliable than a quartz (more complex, more to go wrong), far less accurate, and needs cleaning, which is an expensive job (unlike a battery change).

It's old technology, it was overtaken by quartz for very good reasons, and it's difficult to see any good reason for buying one.

That's naive - there's very good reason why some people still go with watches like Seiko 5s

As to quartz watches - well there's nothing wrong with them, but there's also probably not much that separates the quartz movement between a watch costing £100, an a quartz watch costing £1000, or 2k or 3k. Maybe the case is nicer, maybe there's some fancy, schmancy name on it. Maybe it has some add-on features - point being, that difference in price, isn't going to be because the movement is any way superior as the difference in price would suggest.

Seiko 5s and the 7S26 movement are very respected - that you don't get it, is your choice - but all the same, there are reasons for that.

If there are any logical reasons for choosing an automatic like this over an equivalent Seiko quartz, I'm still struggling to see what they are, given that they're less reliable, far less accurate, and need cleaning. Please enlighten us. :)

It doesn't include G-Shock in the title, but the model number and picture suggest that it is. Probably the cheapest G-shock available.

Yea Pulsar is part of Seiko, but i believe the manufacture is outsourced, quality isn't as good.
don't Seiko make pulsar watches?
Gotta
seanjames
not pulsar cold
True because Pulsar is used by the armed forces for real issue watches.

Actually i believe it is CWC at the moment.. the pulsar G10s were not held in very high regard.

paid about £35 from ebay and was genuine...this was no way at £295

Great, I'd like one at that price. Could you post a link for it please?
Bought a year back so don't have the link for that one...but here's one at £48 or best offer
Ebay item number 330730194216

True but that's if you end up paying all the cost, bought 3 watches so far from Singapore all three boxed and came within 2 weeks and no duty... Maybe I was lucky even though it was on 3 separate occasions.

That one is from Singapore, so by the time you've added VAT & customs clearance fees you'll have waited up to 25 working dayts (5 weeks!) to get something that will still have cost you about £65.60 and when you added the Seiko box too, it'll cost well over £70!
