Stupidly these are a subsiduary of Holland and Barrett but seem to take buisness away from them, wonder if H&B will run them down then cherry pick the stores they want to keep? Cynical much!

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/8911fbe0-c468-11e1-a98c-00144feabdc0.html#axzz20d9qt7TC

As for the offer then they did this most of the time anyway

Wrong, Julian Graves are not owned by Holland & Barrett. They are both owned by the same company (NBTY) but are separate businesses.

Edited By: nicster08 on Jul 16, 2012 12:02
Bought some stuff there today but a lot of the usual items were already sold out. If you're thinking of paying them a visit, go soon!
They certainly didn't make everything half price "most of the time" - maybe you're thinking of Holland and Barretts? I worked there for over a year and I can't recall a single time everything was made half price.

Most of their packaged dried fruit an nuts were overpriced though.
Bargains include:

Nak'd Bars (57p)
Dove's Farm Organic flours (vary)
Doves Farm Yeast
Clipper teas
Some of the sweets were cheap
9-Bars (50p)

Yes they use it but you wouldnt be perscribed manuka honey, it is something they use sometimes. As for colds and sore throats people have to buy it, and at half price I think some will benefit. By all means next time you cut or burn yourself walk up to a&e and see if you can get a pot of 24+ :p
martin159
You can use it externally as well on cuts and sores to help them heal. Thats what the nhs use it for with bandages.

Voting cold as OP already confirmed this is available for free on the NHS.
I use it as I suffer with colds quite often so a teaspoon of this everyday seems to.have reduced the affects a lot, also the higher numbered ones I use if I have a really sore throat. You can use it externally as well on cuts and sores to help them heal. Thats what the nhs use it for with bandages.
People buy it but what does everyone actually use it for?

Its not Holland and Barrett that own these guys, its there sister company. The group is run by NBTY. Not so much greed as the prices of nuts especially have soared everywhere from quality sources

Edited By: martin159 on Apr 10, 2012 22:07
Prices seem to have soared in recent months so this deal brings them back to nearer "former normal". Parent company Holland and Barrett being greedy, I think.

Apparently if you buy the instore magazine for £1 you can use an additional voucher for a further 10% giving you 35% in total... so worthwhile if you are spending more than a tenner

it wont work out at exactly 35% as you get 10% off the total after the 25% discount has been applied. Still works out a great deal if your total is over £10

okay... 15 quid for 1.5...
still two quid for 200gm in sainsburys so 14 quid for 1.4kg... but probably worth the tiny extra amount for the container... but, as it's local... wee bit lukewarm...

That page doesn't conclude very much and most of the definate statements about honey are just that, statements about honey, not any particular kind of honey - read it carefully.
The NHS does in any case have a history of funding treatments that they know don't have any advantages over a placaebo such as homeopathy and acupuncture. They take the rather pragmatic view that giving patients a cheap treatment that might work though the placaebo effect is better than giving them an expensive treatment that probably won't help either and both are easier than telling someone that there's not a lot else that can be done to try to help them.
Try doing a search for "manuka honey" "double blind".
The NHS currently use Manuka honey bandages to treat wounds infected by drug-resistant bacteria, including MRSA.
It's healthy to be a little sceptical about claims for natural products, but it's obtuse to ignore evidence such as clinical trials. See this article on the NHS website for example:
Can honey fight superbugs like MRSA?

Good deal for those that buy it .I wouldn't as i can't afford to but it is clearly a good deal .Just like if cigarettes were half price it would be a good deal regardless of the fact people may aswell be burning money imho.

Nicely put.

It seems not and people frequently buy based on what they like rather than on what it costs.

I've no issue with percieved differences in quality. My issue is with this product being marketed as having medical qualities that are not supportable by evidence.
We've had in the space of a few posts people saying that this stuff can cure cold sores, prevent infection with the common cold and magically keep vocal chords in top shape. That's what I dislike.

With respect, if that's their experience but not yours, what is there to dislike?

Scientifically, no one has been able to prove or disprove the existance of a supreme diety, it doesn't stop billions of people believing.

Fundamentally, I feel we might agree that personal choice and personal experience colours a lot of the day to day things that we do and/or buy. If it didn't we might all find ourselves living on white bread sandwiches, pizza, take-away burgers and fizzy pop (alcoholic or not) and worshipping the prime-minister. :D

Might be great for some but, on all counts, a total nightmare for me! ;)

You are right...hell lot of difference on prices. I went to a store and all food items were 50% off. Don't appreciate that they play price game for online customers.
