It's actually the key on the left of the "o" if you want to spell definitely correctly.

It's definitely not definately

Oh, but good post thanks. Just being picky - no offence intended. - If it came from head office that explains it!

That'll make all the other garages lose a lot of business wont it? Think Tesco want 100% market share of everything! ( Just my view before people start digging lol)
#7
Good heads up....

My local Tesco were once the cheapest around, however since they had a refurb they are on par with Esso. I now use ASDA most of time as the are mostly at least 1p per ltr cheaper.

Not voted just yet.

Will switch from Morrison's miles to tesco clubcard points if this is true...
#9
It's about time tesco became competative on fuel. They (at least in my area) are always the last to lower prices, and will hold as high a price as possible for as long as possible.
Still, the shell's in my area are consistently the cheapest, and I get airmiles there, so I shall continue rather that use the Tesco's no name fuel.

But still, I haven't voted cold...
#10
Tesco petrol still a bit NAFF. Remember the fuel contamination fiasco. Makes most ppl's cars run roughly and un-economically. What do they use the "Value" refinary? lol

Shell and Esso do it for me. Both value and quality.

it is defo true iv got the email here.goes live by monday and advertised on radio and paper.

if you remember the fiasco it wasnt just TESCO it came from the refinary which supplies most garages.i also know it happened at ASDA TO.

Tesco have worked out that people who buy petrol at one of their stores tend to do the weekly shop there too..I mean, why buy your shopping and petrol in two different places, how inconvenient is that?
#14
Yes true but it had affected 95% of Tesco fuel. They had to stop selling fuel at the pumps and were forced to apologise to the public with full page adverts in all the tabloids. never touched it since then, only if I was desperate.
#15
Great new for me as I do about 500 miles a week as part of my job.

That said it will only double my points from £10 worth every 3 months to £20 every 3 months.

Better than a kick in the nuts.

Not hot unless and until Tesco stop charging different prices, as high as they can get away with, in different places (as they do with everything else except for a few headline items).

If Tesco really cared about giving good deals instead of maximising profits as much as possible then they'd charge the same price across all/most outlets like Asda and Morrisons do - and they're almost always cheaper than Tesco for petrol.

For instance, a couple of weeks back I got petrol in High Wycombe from Asda for 87.5p per litre, whereas at the same time, Tesco Extra in Slough (a flagship Tesco store just a few miles away, no more expensive to supply) wanted 92.9p per litre - i.e. about £3 more for a 60 litre fill-up!

Tesco are one of those big companies like Boots, DSG (Dixons/Currys/PC World), etc. that are big on hot air when it comes to claiming low prices but who do all they can to eke out as much as they possibly can from consumers rather than genuinely operating as low margin/high value retailers.

Don't get me wrong, I do like Tesco, but I'd always compare their prices elsewhere first, especiallyon things like petrol!

All Petrol has to meet EN228...if you use EN228 petrol you'll be fine..unfortunately, stuff was shipped that didn't meet EN228!

(Fortunately, I fill up with B30 biodiesel so wasn't affected)

Funny thing is only 200 yards from my local tesco Extra is a Shell which they use as a benchmark for their prices. Even if the price is the same I drive to the Shell. I miss out on a few clubcard points, but hey I'd rather give my car the love and care it deserves.

Thanks op, but I hate reading capitals can you please turn the caps lock off next time! there is no need to shout!

Guffaw!

What, like Asda who send their staff round in the early hours in November to put up the price of spirits just so they can drop the prices again in December and SCREAM about how they are offering huge booze discounts in time for Xmas...?

First rule of bargain hunting: Remember, ALL stores pull various stunts in order to maximise the amount you spend with them. All of them.
#22
Tesco fuel pricing is based on being competitive locally. If they put prices at the same price everywhere they would obliterate local independent competition that could not compete.

Within a year Tesco would be the only source of fuel in a particular area.So be careful what you wish for,

Sorry just managed find how to.lol
banned#24
but how can they price match when u going in? it will take hours to check it etc?
#25
Sorry in my area Tesco have "bullied" local garages out of business - know it is "hot" for some, for others it will be another nail in the coffin to kill off local garages......
#26
do they send Vinny Jones round?
#27
I don't think the big boys by the likes of Shell and BP will let a grocery store eat away at their £8 billion profit per annum. as the saying goes... don't give up your day job.
#28
 well its about time tesco brought the price of their petrol down! 2 local shell stations are 84.9 & 85.6 where as tesco are 88.9....lets hope tis leeds to even lower fuel!!

Tesco fuel pricing is based on being competitive locally.

Can you tell that to my local store in Abingdon, Oxfordshire who are consistently the most expensive petrol station around.

They're currently 2p more per litre for diesel than the Esso next door.
#30
Thanks for that .....voted hot!

Bye bye Morrisons and Helloooooo Tesco!
#31
85.9 in my tesco.........

is this deals confirmed yet........ i'm tempted to find out myself i only live 5 mins from tesco's

That's my point.Tesco can't be accused of killing other stations when they don;t undercut. There prices are competitive which is different from being the cheapest/most aggressive.

Most of us accept that the big supermarkets are killing off local merchants, however there doesn't seem to be evidence of anti competitive pricing .Indeed it sounds like customers want Tesco to undercut?
#33
198 deg and no proof the deal exists- madness, no vote until confirmation
#34
I dont care how many points they are giving away I wont run my car on ANY supermarket fuel. Its the same basic standards as the brands true, but lacks the additives and lubricants that modern engines need. So Shell every time ( and its the same price):whistling:

It only satisfies EN228 once they filter all the **** out on the forecourt. My mate changes the filters at Morrisons & Tesco and says their petrol is so manky they're having to increase filter changes from once to twice per week. He says - avoid. He doesn't use either even though he's got a discount card for both.

But hey. It's cheap and that's all that matters *cough*

Thank you for your patronising putzoid sneer of a response - I hope you enjoyed yourself. Not sure what you're finding so funny though - what I've said about how Tesco supply and price fuel is entirely true. As for:

Well duh! We all know they all pull these kinds of stunts all the time - but when it comes to fuel (which is what this thread and my comment are about), Tesco are the 'not-so-good-guys' who make out that they're cheap, when in fact they're only competitive in some places, unlike Asda and Morrisons who are generally always competitive on fuel everywhere.

While we're at it though, most people who compare their typical shopping basket at Tesco with their typical shopping basket at Asda would save money at Asda - that's not to say that Asda don't try to maximise profits - they do - but they do it more efficiently and on leaner margins.
#37
How do Tescos "make out there fuel is cheap"? I rarely see it advertised, and when it is it doesn't make any claims of being cheaper than other places.

People moan that Tescos prices are too high, then they moan they are too low and killing off other garages, can they ever win?
#38
the deal is defo going ahead 10000%. all stop bitching please i just posted a deal and people on bout asda etc.the deal is TESCO.LOL

is this really true? (genuine question! not being sarcastic or funny!) I always thought all fuel was the same?

Voted hot by the way, I mostly fill up at tesco for convenience as it is just down the road... and I work there:-D, double points is great!
