Sounds like it could save people a lot of money on expensive contracts! It's a great idea I am even tempted to pick up a mobile and have it unlocked to use one.

I have had to pay contracts off in the past and it put me off mobiles for life pretty much but this kind of deal would interest me.

Quidco = £38 for SIM only pay monthly contract (this does not cover PAYG SIMS) not sure if this would cover the above

Voted warm. Not as good as O2's simplicity deals.

For example on O2 £20 will get you 400 mins and 1000 texts. If you send a picture message then O2 will take this out of your text allowance first. 1 picture message = 4 texts

yeah o2 far better deal , shop around though things change day by day with different networks.

That's cool. Do you know if on the long weekends (25quid/more a month) if you choose texter, the 1 picture msg = 4 texts will go out of the 'unlimited texts' or your 1000 texts?

O2 simplicity are alot better if you get one that's 25/month or more as you get Long Weekends included which is 'unlimited calls or texts on saturday, sunday and monday'.

I'm looking to buy a sim-only (cashback is too daring for my income as a student), no 12/18month contract so if anyone has any other better deals (as in the best value for money) feel free to tell :P

If you are already with a telco, and are coming up to the end of the contract, it may be better to see what they offer, if you stay with them.

For example, last year, Three offered my 500 mins and 100 texts for £5 a month, if I kept my phone OR the same minutes & texts for £10 a month if I wanted a new phone.

This is a great way of getting a deal, especially as there is no faffing about with PACs or cashback.

Anyone know if these are subject to credit checks or are they like pay as you go i.e. no credit check required?
#8
For the one-monthers there will be no credit check as its not a 12/18 month contract (Same for o2).
#9
Just for a comparison:

I'm on O2 Simplicity £25/month at the moment, sim only rolling contract, offered to me for £20/month after my 2x12months with O2.

650mins and 500sms a month
and
Saturday 00:00:01 to Monday 23:59:59 only, ie "long weekends" I have 22,000mins "no call period limit" anynet/anytime every month

edit: Just noticed Jellt's question, as far as I know, 4sms = mms, not sure about video ones though.

Yes they would be subject to a credit check. Remember they are providing you with an account that is post-pay as oppossed to pre-pay.

Sorry but that's nonsense. SIM only accounts are post-pay therefore a line of credit is being granted.

will you be able to upgrade your phone with a sim only deal eg after 12 months, or pay less line rental monthly like a normal contract?

That's a very good question. I'll ask O2 tomorrow.
