I've been looking at a few mini pcs and was considering the intel compute stick posted on here last month. I decided to look for something similar using the newer x5-8300 atom CPU (bit faster, better graphics etc) and come across this which suits my requirements better.

While you certainly sacrifice a bit more space you can install a HDD/SSD and have the benefit of additional usb, otg, hdmi 2.0, Ethernet & even a VGA connection. Can't find anything close to this spec for the price (the compute sticks are around £120 for similar cpu)

the details:

One of the most exciting new product. This is a fully functional mini PC at a fraction of a full system cost. It has a small form factor with a stylish black finish to compliment the rest of your home entertainment system. With a fully licensed official copy of the latest Windows system, you can plug this into your big screen TV and use it as a media center PC. The powerful 64bit Intel Cherrytrail Quad Core CPU ensure there is enough power to also use this as a home office PC. System storage memory is expandable to 4TB with SATA internal SSD/HDD bay and USB drives! It support HDMI full HD monitor setup so no additional graphics card is needed. This is truly a one stop entertainment hub and work horse!

Would this run fairly basic pc games? like minecraft or the sims 4? my sons tower system takes up so much space.

i think the issue is this only has a tiny 32gb essd drive and 2gb ram , both I suspect cannot be upgraded. these boxes have their uses but I think even basic gaming will be very hard going. hot for the deal through.

true but a more capable SSD or HDD can be put in the HD bay and the games and any other programs could be installed on that. The 2gb ram might be more of an issue though, not sure what the minimum requirements are for those games.

It will run basic games, as to how well is a different matter.

Its a misconception Minecraft is a simple game. Yes it its basic form it is quite minimal and can be run single player on lower spec machines, but the majority of people play modded Minecraft, and this is an entirely different beast.

Wait till your playing Project Ozone 2, FTB: Infinity, or SkyFactory 2.5. Or connected Mutliplayer do a dedicated modded server... You will need far more than an Atom with 2GB ram for an immersive experience.
