nice camera for the money. Just a shame I already have one!

It says 45x zoom on the camera in the picture and only 39x in the description.

Be really careful when buying JVC Everio camcorders. Most rely on the bundled JVC software. I've seen complaints on several models that they use a non-standard ".mod" file format. I don't know if this model has that problem or not, but worth checking.

Also this is a standard definition camcorder. You can pick up a high def Sanyo GH3 from Agros for £130. Zoom won't be as long, but it will blow this out of the water for picture quality.

EDIT - By the way, I didn't vote hot or cold. While it is a good price for this model I don't think it's a particularly good buy given how much HD camcorders have dropped in price, so I'm in two minds!

Also take a look at your local PC World and Comet stores. The ones round here are selling off last year's Sanyo GH1 cameras for around £110.

I know that's a lot more money, but it really is worth the extra to get HD quality.

Some camcorders have a slightly larger sensor than they need for the format. It's often a standard sensor used for several cameras with slightly different requirements. It's possible that it's a 39x optical and then using the rest of the sensor for a small amount of digital zoom without significant loss of resolution, so claiming 45x on the camera.

good price but old tec tho good buy for those who want a basic camcorder

issues
no hd, Av connection only might be issue for some, also this model doesn't take still images, as well as the relying on JVC software issue

very good zoom tho

i think thier 2 models ones an sek and ones a bek the bek sheet says

Zoom Ratio Optical 39x
Dynamic Zoom 45x

tech specs here for those who are interested

You *used* to be able to rename the .mod files to .mpg and they would work fine. Not sure if that's still the case though.

I think that was right on these older SD models but I'm not sure that's the case on all models. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way with the HD models.

Basically JVC want to lock you into their software. If you want to do advanced editing you can always purchase an upgrade to the more advanced version of their software ...

It records in Mpeg2 and so can be converted easily. The file extension it uses is .mod so re-naming them to .mpeg and most progs will open it and coversion is covered.

Nice feedback from what I have seen on the net so far............

Nice price for a standard camcorder.

Is some spec and details

WRONG MODEL MATE NOT HD

Good price but would not buy it.

Not related to this model but I was really unimpressed to say the least with the SD JVC Everio I had - I had a model with a built in HDD but sold it on ebay earlier in the year when I realised I was getting far better quality (and HD!) video from my camera. It was hopeless in low light situations - great outdoors in good light but performed really badly indoors. It also had an annoying habit of turning itself off (even with drop detection off) if sound levels were too high so no good for recording bands or anything like that. Worse still were the occasional file system errors it would come up with, droppings recordings mid-way or sometimes losing anything on there and having to reformat. I wasn't alone with this problem - google "everio file management error" and it's a very common fault. That was a HDD related issue though and I paid a load more than this - this is a great price, just not a brand I'd ever go back to for a camcorder now.

I have a digital camera that shoots in HD (720), please can someone confirm would to quality be better with this though?

If its not, how to hell do shops sell them even at £60 when you can get a HD digital camera for £60?
#19
I bought one this morning. Anyone know where to buy a spare battery for less than the cost of the camera?
Thanks

No camcorders on the 'Agros' site mate ;)

I bought this camera the other week as it was a great price. It was easy to use and easy to upload on the laptop.....unfotunatley mine was faulty, it had a dark spot on the lense (even tho the lense was clean), Currys Newbury were quite helpful. The battery life was rubbish at less than an hours worth so if poss get a 2nd and 3rd battery. I'll do a bit more research next time I invest in a camera. Hardly any left in stores.
#26
been looking for a HD camcorder for ages saw the panasonic SD60 but its £300

most of the cheap JVC and Sanyo are rubbish in anything but amazing lighting conditions, at least they are better than the pock cams like flip

The recording will be 480 p I suspect. However the optical zoom is way better than any standard digital camera with video capability. I am not sure, but I think the sensor will be much better in this for video processing resulting in better quality video than digi cam.

Well, do you expect a Sony for £99.99? Let me know and I will buy it right away. I am not saying that this is the best camcorder/offer ever but just check out the youtube test videos of both of them and you can see the difference. For some quick movies is this cam not that bad for the price I believe.

I've got a JVC Everio HD camera - it's very good. I had this issue when I first used it, but there's a menu option to change the file output from the camera (at least on my one) to MPEG-2 which meant I could upload immediately to Corel Video Studio (or whatever it's called). Obviously this is only my experience with one JVC camera, but it may be worth checking this out if you're keen to buy...

this looks like one of those chinese models rebranded as jvc. i've had two other "jvc" camcorders in the past and they were very very poor, no better than using a mobile phone camera. filming indoors was a no go. happy to be proven wrong
