Has a timelapse feature so hot!

actually for the price looks pretty good, originally released in late 2010 and sold for £160 ish

There are some good videos on Youtube showing it's picture quality.

Very tempted to get this for my new classroom. Has anyone discovered anything of a similar spec for a better price?

Interesting but the reviews say only 40 mins battery life, shame!

Looks strangely like the Panasonic TA2 from Currys last week (£36) but the JVC has more features. The Panny is waterproof to 3 metres and has a metal chassis but lacks digital image stabilisation (YouTube fixes this)

The Panasonic TA2 is not waterproof at all, you're confusing it with the TA20, looks all plastic to me as well.

Neither the JVC or TA2 are as good as the models from Kodak, Zi8 for instance - just waiting for the waterproof Zx5 to be on offer somewhere

Yes, the manual is confusing as it covers both models and could give some users the wrong idea - take a TA2 under water and it'll die a death.

TA2 is not a bad camera, the sound is excellent but it copes poorly when you move it at anything other than snail pace :)

All of which are at least double the price of this, so of course they wouldn't be as good.

I got the ta2 recently, and while it's decent for £35, I wouldn't like to have paid £100 for it. As miriam51 said, its ability to cope with movement is not great. Pretty average indoors too. Also, I got it as I thought having 1080 would be better than my flip mino which only has 720. However the 1080 mode really isn't that great - I doubt the sensor can really take advantage of it. The UI on this one looks similar to the ta2 - is it more or less the same camera? I read a cNet review which seemed to say the jvc has the same problems that I see with the ta2.

    good price, heat added

Trouble is that nearly all low to medium cost HD cams seem to suffer with panning shots or fast movement resulting in either block effects or that wobbly effect that you see all the time on videos from Syria showing things blowing up
