I have been looking for sometime for a good surround sound system and finally came accross this nice piece of kit. The main thing that attracted me to this is that the sound is good and the amount of connections is impressive. It has 2 optical connections and also has 2 HDMI connections. This system is also quite nice and compact and looks great too. Going to have this connected to my ps3, hdtv and my wii.

The reviews ive read on this system are very good and noticed alot of guys on the AV forums giving there approval on this surround sound system.

I was orginally going to pay £245 from empire direct as it seemed to be going for £250 mark nearly everywhere inc amazon etc.. So if your looking to get hold of a system thats got all the connections you are looking for, good sound and looks good then id advise going for this deal from Play. Its not a great saving but better £40+ in your own pocket then someone elses :P

This is a nice looking piece of kit, good find. Sadly my wife thinks speakers should (and I quote) "be heard and not seen". She "cannot understand why you need more than two" and thinks "the ones built into the telly are fine", so I'd have more chance of playing pick up sticks with my bum cheeks that getting these into the house! ;-)

Does anyone know if the speakers are internally wired, as I already have an existing monster cable run set up behind skirting, can't find this info anywhere.

Got these for 189.99 at Xmas with a voucher, they are a worthy investment for those looking to bolster the sound from their ps3 or 360; and the ipod dock feature is useful.

Easy to set up; though I would say that you will need to purchase an optical or HDMI cable for the full benefit. Certainly looks good and enhances any COD4 battle! Very easy to set up.

Rear speaker wires are about 5 metres long.

Recommended.

Just wondering, when it says HDMI pass-through, does that mean it just basically gives you some more HDMI slots for video, or does the amp process the sound coming through HDMI (in the same way it does through the Digital Optical.

Might be a stupid question, but when I was looking for a 5.1 amp system last year, some of the amps that had HDMI connections didn't process the audio.

Could anyone enlighten me on this? Pretty much bought if it processes the HDMI sound.

I think you will find you can run the sound throught HDMI cable. As HDMI counts for video and audio. It has two imputs, thats always good when you have more than 1 HD system, like Sky HD and PS3. I was going to buy this system a few days ago as most sound systems are going towards HDMI.

I have had one of these since xmas, pretty good. Sound, has a lot of inputs but has a couple of bad points too.

I have PS3 and DVD player connected by HDMI, the system cannot recieve sound through HDMI so i my PS3 connects via optical and my DVD player via coaxial.

Realisically you can only connect 3 devices to this, and if you have more than 2 you have to have wires sticking into the front of the sytem with the flap open (not very pretty)

My other issue is that you cant have the ipod on screen to control the songs you have you have to walk over to pick the song but can skip forward etc with the remote no problem.

Any other questions let me know

Oh someone asked if the wires cliped into the back of the speakers, no they are fixed in so cannot be removed

Oh, the blue lights look a bit tacky but can be turned off

An okish system. I recently bought a "home cinema in a box" system so spent ages looking through what hifi, hifi choice etc... at reviews and going to a few shops.

I've not seen any review for this system, but two of the other JVC systems I looked at were reviewed as about average.

I went for the LG HT902TB's. 5 stars from What Hifi. Listened to them before I bought them too. Been very happy with them. £265 was the cheapest I could find them at.

The system I really wanted was the Sony DAV-IS10. Excellent reviews everywhere, but costs quite a bit more. Nearer £350, although you may find them cheaper. Product of the year 2007 in What Hifi.

The Sony doesn't even give you sound through the HDMI, you have to buy an optical cable!

How dumb of Sony is that?

if they are hard wired you should be able to connect the cables with the correct connectors

OK, this system (like most) only has HDMI Pass-through which basically means it acts as a HDMI switcher so you can plug in 2 HDMI sources and have just the one going to your TV. So you will get sound via HDMI to your TV but NOT through the surround speakers. To get surround sound from a PS3, 360 etc. you need to connect it via the optical input. Hope that helps.

Which one is the best out of the JVC & Sony?, I noticed the sony is rated at 1000w output power, and auto set up with a microphone etc..

IS THERE AN OPTICAL IN OR COAXIAL IN FOR THE AUDIO (PS3) ON THE LG?

Anyone know anything about a wireless version that does the same thing? I don't think I can bare the idea of wires running around my living room...
