LOL!

I don't usually like playing cards but I would make an exception for these :)

Mother-in-law just getting out of hospital and will be housebound for the next few months. Think I'll get her a set for playing patience :D

Strip poker would probably be more appropriate!
#7
'Beat your neighbors, out of drawers' would be even more appropriate.

Love the comments, you guys are nuts

We do put ourselves in some positions with these deals.

Keep it family safe guys. This is pushing the limit...
[mod]#14
As Admin has said lots of people of different ages read through these forums so please tone it down a bit ....
#15
Just a thought for the mods, would it be worth having a section for ages 18+ deals and the discussion which inevitably follows? I'm sure there's some people who would rather this kind of thing be segregated from the rest of the deals. BTW, I won't be offended if any mod wants to remove my comments but I hope the one regarding phthalates in sex toys is worth keeping as a public service announcement. :)

Had to stop my kids from using my PC for a while - can't we start a new adults only password protected forum for this? Light hearted banter is one thing.....
#17
Yes, I think in the interests of the forum, I think I'll have to clean up this thread a bit.

Sorry folks, but as biglugs says there may be younger users on here too.

That's interesting that you allow an year old to surf the web clearly without filtering software and also allow an 8 year old to shop for bargains.

My 9 year old has filtering software on his PC that blocks out any inappropriate words or sites. It doesn't matter how careful they are they'll inadvertently stumble on something they shouldn't. It happens to all of us.

I would think that an 'X' rated forum would really increase the popularity of HDUK once the WWW get to know about it.

I would doubt if there would be much in the way of bargains, though, and steps would have to be taken to prevent a 'No holds barred' content but it sounds like a good idea to me.

Why not have a vote on it?

No offense Millarcat but as an experienced mod you really should have seen these posts coming!
(Are they really even that hot a deal?)
#22
Good point rizla01, though I was thinking more of a deal category or tag which could be added so that it's flagged as an adults only deal, accessible to registered users only maybe. Perhaps I'm foolish to think it could be kept civil :)

Did you post this to tempt fate!!!...overnight the site was heavily spammed with porn.

It's for admin to decide..andI'm not blaming millarcat cos I think she's great for HUKD...but maybe deals of a sexual nature will have to be banned forthwith as I guess it encourages the sort of activity experienced last night....just a thought.

I don't have the answer as to the best way forward, I'm not BLAMING Millarcat for the thread content & I recognise the large amount of (thankless)work done by ALL the mods, but come on....it shouldn't take a lot of thought to see the state this thread would end up in!

Interesting! It didn't happen with the condom thread?

Results of the poll are very interesting.

Thanks for thos that have troubled to vote.

Yes, i did think twice about posting it. But there isn't actually anything smutty in my OP. It simply describes what the cards are (no inuendo's) sp?. I just though they might make a good valentines gift.

I had hoped that the comments would stay fairly clean, but they didnt and i take responsibility for that.

No it's not millarcat's fault that some replies here turned it into something x-rated. Adults should know where to draw the line with replies.

I guess we'll have to stop posting this type of deal if we can't be careful in reaction to it.

The responsibility lies with us all, not just you Cat and I apologise on behalf of the rest of us for not getting to the posts sooner.

I DID state that I in no way was blaming Millarcat for the content, I just felt it was a post doomed to end up going down the path it did & the fact that she thought twice about posting back up the fact that this was possibley not the wisest of posts.
All those posting should take responsibilty for what they post but where is the guidance over what is & isn't 'suitable'. For the most part we all know we can't swear but with regards to tone, content & innuendo where does it state where the line is to know when it's been crossed...it's all subjective.

As for 'this type of deal', what would this be?
Is the condom thread OK because it's to do with 'family planning' whereas this one is purely for 'entertainment' purposes?

Personally, I've already said I don't have the answer to the best way forward. I think in general that working with the Mod's descretion (removing threads that overstep 'the mark' that usually don't actually add any RELEVANT info to the thread) & the common sense shown by some of the posters should really be enough & don't see a need for an adults only forum.

I agree, we don't need an adults forum and I wasn't getting at you with my reply CHARLEYTHIRTYTWO :) Just saying as you have, we're all responsible and I think removing posts where relevant is also the right way to go.

On that note, can we move on now please ;-)

As Ray says, lets move on. I've removed a few more unnecessary posts.
#31
Not that I have kids or anything but it would be useful for another reason:

Some of us browse this place at work and these kinds of things cropping up could get the site blacklisted by employers. If it comes up as "Site Blocked: Adult Content" tomorrow then I'll know who to blame :p
#32
Good point, but I don't know why i'm bothering to comment on this any more as each posting I make is being removed indiscriminately.
#33
I guess it's probably best not to rock the boat by creating an adults only area. But perhaps there could be better guidelines on what's allowed and what's not since I honestly didn't think anything I posted was "smutty". Not appropriate for children granted, but since the OP wasn't either it didn't even cross my mind. Maybe we could have a list of certain products which can't be linked to/discussed since I don't think anyone can complain at that. It's just that as an admin on another forum, I know the important thing is that members knows where they stand and are treated fairly. As I mentioned before I don't mind my posts being removed but others might feel a little aggrieved because it's like being told off by a school teacher. :-D

I'll be keeping my advice on (the subject brought up, I daren't even mention it now :)) out of the comments on here in future. But just for the record, I only posted my concerns over the product which was linked to by tomtomek because one of the great things about HotUKDeals is the collective knowledge from it's members and I felt it important to voice my opinion on the product mentioned.

The irony of this whole thread, is that Play.com have put the price back up to the original one of 4.99 - so it is selling for full price with no reduction at all!!
#35
They are 4.99 on the website

our price: £4.99 Delivered

Exactly my point:w00t: They were posted as a 'hot' deal - reduced from 4.99 down to 3.99. And after pages of comments and conflict, have now gone back up to their original price!

I did raise the point some five days ago as to whether these were, considering what they were AND the unimpressive reduction a 'HotUKDeal'?
#38
Conflict is a bit of a strong word and I don't think it was ever about whether it was a hot deal or not! :) Besides people seem to have voted that £3.99 was a decent price.

Don't think 'conflict' was a comparison with international & middle-eastern events, it was just an expression of some people's attitudes & feelings towards the post. Ultimately on many of the items posted it is PERSONAL choice as to whether you consider something a 'HotDeal'.
Personally I did not think this was, but others may have done, as is the case on a great number of posts....so many posts are getting chilled or frozen PURELY because they are not 'popular' rather than whether or not they are a 'HotDeal' (ie. a good discount from the lowest available price or compared to the 'normal' price).
#40
But you've answered yourself CHARLEYTHIRTYTWO :) The deal is popular so it gets voted hot, so then is a Hot Deal down to everyone's personal choice. It doesn't necessarily have to be at a low price, it could be the "normal" price. But I do see what you mean about the lowest price for a particular item and that does come into play when the best Hot Deals are glowing ;-)
