There are three generations of Kameleon remotes, that one there listed at Richer Sounds is a first generation one (Have owned it for 4 years) The one listed at Currys there is a third generation unit, although for some reason it is only a 5-in-1 I believe their flagship model is an 8-in-1.

To be honest, I have just ordered the Logitech Harmony 555 from Amazon posted here for £45, far more flexible with programmability. My old Kameleon served a purpose but was never fully customisable, was better than a lot of programmeable remotes but still not a touch on those Harmony remotes.

I don't think really the third generations are much of an improvement either. But there again the Harmony 555 is £20 more (although that is a killer price tag for it at Amazon!), however its a What Hi-Fi 2007 award winner and the customer comments on Amazon speak in volumes about the remote if you are prepared to spend time with it programming.

You pays your money you makes your choice...voted warm on price for this, but a caution to those considering buying it, come six months time I am sure you will be craving something more customisable.

Am I missing something? Why so cold?
This looks like a good price for this remote. 39.99 on play.com, 37.00 on Amazon.
Might drop into my local Currys tonight and see if they have any.
Voted hot.

A Logitech Harmony 525 or 555 for just a few quid more is a hugely better option.

These Logitechs certainly have a lot of fans. Although my own experience of the 525 wasn't great; I found it very flimsy. Plus having to connect it to the laptop in order to make changes was a pain. It's broken completely now. No great loss as I had gone back to my ancient oneforall anyway.

Not sure about the 525, but just ordered the 555, What Hi Fi 2007 best remote winner, look at the customer reviews on Amazon...as far as I am concerned (although have no experience in using it as just ordered!) the reviews and customer comments speak in volumes.

Not that the Kameleon remotes are particularly bad, just nowhere near as customisable. If you have a LOT of AV stuff then really the Kameleon remotes are too rudimentary, thats why I am upgrading.

*Price has just gone up on Amazon on the Logitech 555 to £52!*

Currys are also doing the 8 in 1 remote at £34.99 in store, got one a few weeks back, very impressed!
