I bought this on the zavvi deal and its still not been despatched, however it now says "awaiting dispatch" instead of just having no stock (even though at the time it said in stock)...presume its too late to cancel now...its done the same with the wonders collection. zavvi sucks atm.

I have them both but they're highly recommended by me to the newbies. Also, as nobody has said it - he's got a head like a f*!&ing orange.

Thank god those two ***** don't make much of an appearance in this series, Karl is quite good by himself, hope they don't influence him.

What's the point in the program being in HD? It's a waste of time being in colour!

Because the fact that they write his current script has no influence on him whatsoever :D

Scripted? lol. Any proof for this accusation?
If you have listened to anything from the past such as the XFM shows and The Ricky Gervais Show podcasts, you'll see.

For those interested they're bringing back an idiot abroad back for a 3rd time in a 2-part special, i'm guessing a Christmas Special that they usually do.
This time it'll be Karl and Warwick Davis travelling in; An Idiot Abroad 3: The Short Way Round.

100% correct. Every time a KP thread comes out someone says this and I'm tired of writing the same reply so thanks for saving me the bother.

The hundreds of hours (downloadable online) of Ricky's Xfm shows with Steve and Karl (Karl was producer of the radio show at the time) are the best proof that he isn't a made up character.

Yeah, thinking about it people keep trying to tell me that Coronation Street is a soap opera?!?!? I mean come on!!, I keep telling them that there are hundreds of hours (downloadable online) with Ken Barlow and Betty Turpin which is the best proof that they are not made up characters and it is infact a fly on the wall documentary.... ;)

Do you guys know that if you say "Orange" really quickly it actually sounds like "Gullible"??? Try it!! :D

You are completely clueless aren't you?

When Ricky and Steve came back to XFM in 2001 Ricky was far too famous to push his own buttons so XFM gave them a little bald Manc to do it fo them (Karl) Eventually as the weeks went on Karl started to come out his shell and talk on air, Ricky and Steve then realised that they had more than a little bald Manc, they had a shaven chimp. Eventually it ended up pretty much being the Karl Pilkington show, as Ricky and Steve never prepared and just preferred to poke Karl.

If you listened to the XFM shows you would know that Karl isn't an act, he is in fact an actor called Graham...

:D You reckon they could script a 2 hour comedy radio show once a week from start to finish?

One listen and you'd know it wasn't scripted. Thanks for your input though.

Same with Corrie mate, its on for more than that, you're just backing up my theory about Ken :D

Comedy takes a lot longer to write than that tripe. A good example of this is that each series of The Office took the best part of a year to write.

I find the radio shows a lot funnier than The Office by the way.

Do you believe everything you see and hear from the media?!?! There are people who truly believe that David Brent is real and would throw the same weak evidence forward to support it as you have for this.

Once last thing.... do you want to buy some of my magic beans??? :D

I'm sure if he wasn't real a lot of people would know him from school etc and would be selling a story to the press.

With respect, how do you KNOW that comedy takes longer to write? Similarly, how do you KNOW that it took a year to write the Office?

At the end of the day, I liked the first series of IA, it was well WRITTEN, the series has gradually deteriorated since. The last series was in most part a documentary with the same tired old jokes IMHO.
#29
I approve of this.

Anything that comes out of Karl Pilkingtons mouth is completely unscripted and original. He just says what he thinks, plain and simple. Anyone who thinks otherwise obviously only know who he is because of the show.

Possible, and a better argument than has been put forward so far. I personally think that his "character" is part real, part exagerated and part fabricated, Im just not sure on the percentage of each. Main thing is, regardless of what it is its entertaining..... and thats what matters :D

We clearly aren't going to agree on this one. But you ask me how I know it takes a year to write a series of The Office, well if it hadn't taken a year there would've probably been a lot more episodes/series made which would have meant a lot more money for the writers.

I enjoyed Idiot Abroad but I agree that the 2nd series didn't live up to the first.

My brother showed me this video around the end of 2006 and I've been a massive fan of Karl ever since.

That again holds no water. If what you are saying were true, they would have written a new series every year since in order to milk the most from it?!? I like the "character" of Karl, I just dont believe that its 100% him,I dont know why that matter so much to you?

We can agree to disagree can't we? ;)

Great show. Series 2 on Sky Anytime+ if that's of use to anyone. Also worth keeping an eye on Sky1 HD schedules for repeat screenings of both series late night.

Well I'm going for a run here so yeah we can lol

The reason it matters to me is that I hear this argument all the time and as a massive fan of what I believe is a 'real life' unscripted character it gets on my goat a bit.

I believe that if any of these people went back to how he started out and listened to the original material long before Idiot Abroad, they would hear for themselves that he couldn't be a fictional character.

I think first season wasnt, but second season felt heavily scripted.

Its not a pointless argument, its a well mannered discussion..... theres a distinct difference, you may want to look it up ;).... as for your question, I have no idea sorry :(

@Tractorboyo, no probs at all, its good to be passionate about things, the main point is that unlike some, you are able to discuss without getting stroppy or throwing insults. I like to have these little conversations, much better than "gr8 deal" or "its hot in here", and I appreciate your views, Karl is a funny guy, character or not. He'd be a good person to hang out with if he is for real thats for sure :D
