Karl Pilkington's An Idiot Abroad Blu-ray £14.95 at Zavvi

Pre-order - Next best £1 more at Amazon

Release Date: 15 November 2010

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are outraged that Karl has written off the Seven Wonders claiming they're all "a bit s**t" having never seen any of them with his own eyes. They've thrown down the gauntlet to send him around the globe to force him out of his comfort zone. Stephen wants the experience to broaden Karl's mind and change his outlook on the world. Ricky wants Karl to hate every minute of it for his own amusement.

Despatched on what many would term a journey of a lifetime, the 'little Englander' will be putting his misgivings to one side as Karl finds out for himself what the fuss is about. He will travel to the Great Wall of China, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Petra in Jordan, Machu Picchu in Peru, Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Taj Mahal in India and the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Meanwhile Gervais and Merchant will be keeping a watchful eye from London, monitoring every step of Pilkington's journey.

Typical Ricky Gervais trash - 1st one was quite funny, but watching Karl whine through each episode is getting tedious to say the least ...

The only part about this programme to dislike is that every episode Ricky does an over the top laugh to things that are only mildly amusing.
#13
does any one know where I can watch the first episode again?
#14
Love this show, it's hilarious! Some of the **** countries that he visits are real eye openers!!! You can keep your Wonders of the World, if they were in nicer countries, then I'd be interested in seeing them, but as they are in utter hellholes, I'll stick to seeing them on TV.

This show is hilarious. But RG needs to leave KP to do his stuff. He is so funny and as for him whining.... isn't that the whole point or am I missing something ?

the guys got a head like a f*cking orange. thats why i love him.
#18
RG is so famous now he even has his own gimp to run around like an idiot while RG laughs at him

I'm looking forward to seeing it, as the Ricky Gervais Show (animated version of older Podcasts with Karl) was excellent. Presumably its just a single disc, in which case I'll rent it from Lovefilm rather than shell out £15.
#20
Hilarious show - though the first is the best so far... "Get the brick out".

As mentioned the worst thing is every episode Ricky Gervais & Steve Merchant are involved.

Can't wait to see what Karl has to say this week when he gets to the pyramids and sees the McDonalds built next door.

"chicken with a gun"
"on suite shed"

Not only that..but they had to lift the camel onto the back of the pickup....

The funniest thing that I have seen on tv for years. As is the whole series
#27
Great series thought it was hilarious when he was feeding monster munch to the Mexicans.
#28
Pilkington is way funnier and wittier than either Gervais or Merchant. I don't see why Gervais insists people believe Karl is a real character, it adds nothing to the comedy
#29
I came to this show after seeing a trailer and had never heard of Karl or his podcasts before, he was completely new to me and I didn't know of his Gervais connection. I can honestly say after seeing the show for the first time - the Israel episode - it felt like Karl was just acting the idiot, his reactions seemed scripted (or semi-scripted) or at least exaggerated for the camera. I don't think he is being as spontaneously stupid as people think. That doesn't make it not funny though!

Am enjoying the series, but the best for me is the free podcasts from itunes you can get of RG, SM and Karl giving his perspective on life, some of the same that Sky have televised.
The early ones are great, I had to stop listening in the Gym as I was laughing out loud and couldn't concentrate on my workout.
Would thoroughly recommend them.

Quite a lot of people seem to have a problem with Pilkington's appearances on TV. A friend of mine claims "they're just milking it now". The same could be said about everything on television. Whats that Leo and Scorsese are doing another film? ah they're just milking it. If you don't like it don't watch it, 6 episodes is hardly dominating the schedule.

Other criticisms include "he isn't really that thick he's putting it on"- no he thinks the plural for mongoose is mongs, he isn't putting it on. Or worse the ultra cynical "he's an actor, Gervais invented him" as though a) Gervais needs the money and b) they spent about 4 years on radio with only a handful of listeners to fool us all into thinking it was genuine and have only now, almost a decade later, decided to cash in on their cunning invention.

Why do people come out with this stupid comment for every tv show that is listed? Use iplayer, 4od, sky+?

Some of us actually like to own physical copies of shows
