Great price! I would have bought this but you can download it for free off the Barclays website if you're an account holder with them. Good product too.

This isn't entry-level, its a fully comprehesnsive anti-virus, and rated by many as the best in the business with rock solid detection rates.

Rated by many to be a waste of money, me included.

It slows down my quad system and my wifes P4, it also slows down my brothers system.
I am talking web browsing being very slow and locking up.

I have tried it 3 times same sh*t result.
I only paid £5 for 3 x licence so I am not too bothered, buty would not give a quid for it now.

and yes it was the latest release downloaded direct.

Well rather unforunately your experiences don't correlate with mine or the professionals, so I'm not taking any notice.

Im still too cheap to move off avira - but even i know this is about as good as it gets for an AV program. HOT

symantec / Norton pants
Mcaffee pants

avg and microsoft ok I guess for free but not in the same league as Kaspersky but the 'average' user may be ok with the free ones.

Is it not much cheaper to buy the 2009 version for £7.99 and get a free upgrade to 2010 version legit from the Kaspersky website. One can save £4 more :-)

Correct me if I am wrong.

Is there any difference?

I just thought I'd give my 2 pence with regards to MSE, yes its free and yes it has a small footprint, but if you read around its updates and detection aren't as good as the others.

For example Kaspersky often has several detection updates per day while MSE can go for days without an update, also the big boys like Kaspersky are better at detecting threats that aren't in your databases by analysing their behaviour. I know its nitpicking a bit but after you've lost a lot of important files due to virus, every extra level of protection counts.

I personally use Kaspersky and have it installed in 6 machines ranging from entry level £250 machine to a £3000 machine and have never had any slowdown. It does however slow down my netbook, but thats only cos its a bit crap and has trouble firing word up sometimes! I also like the firewall that doesn't pester me every 5 seconds and just gets on with it.

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

it is comprehensive and apparently its very good according to my brother, he knows his computers, builds them programs etc, picked up things other anti-virus could not and more so was able to actually fix the problem and not just taunt you that you have a problem.

I still use Kaspersky as with Barclays and it works, and it has picked up everything even websites that are dodgy, beofre my computer loads them, so this might be more comprehensive in real time terms, and might be the cause of any slow down, not sure if the Microsoft one offers such level of protection,

Over the last twelve years, I have tried every AV on the market and have lost loads of software and work then I stumbled upon Kaspersky Internet Security(KIS)!
To get the best, the settings have to be tweaked to your own personal use and every violation that has got onto my pc KIS has cleared it.
Of course, there are some settings that will slow your pc down to a crawl but once you have adapted your style KIS will work to your advantage.
I know I will never have to wipe any of my drives again because KIS is that good.
If you choose to pay for AV software or get it free that is your choice but when it all goes tits up and you lose two years worth of work, you will learn an important lesson that you won't forget in a hurry.
I build my own systems but they take weeks of time I would rather spend doing other stuff and in the meantime losing out on bargains galore whilst I am off-line.
#23
Kaspersky is one of the best out there, but I would advise against using the AV only version. You want KIS anyone saying MSE is better just does not know how to setup kaspersky (any flavor) and is just a 'plug and play' type of guy.

MSE is ok for free software but detection rates are lower than kaspersky - and thats a fact
#24
anyone know if the license is only vaild for 1 year, 3 years or forever? Their foreign site's renewal offer on website is a joke to me
#25
Just thought I'd add that I like the 2009 version better. Found that there is a problem in 2010 version, burning discs with Nero as I was getting a lot of coasters. You can add Nero programs in trusted apps found in 'threats and exclusions' in the settings. Everythings fine now and no more coasters.
#26
In the top 3 or 4 best antivirus programs. There's not a top 5 because there's not 5 good consumer apps out there.

Also consider the free and excellent:

or (not with)

Exactly! COLD from me I;m afraid.

No idea why anyone is voting this hot when you can get the FULL suite for £7.99 and then upgrade it to the 2010 version.

Buy the following and just download the 2010 ful demo and input the 2009 key you bought!

I have it already and yes it does impact speed.

Both Avast and AVG caught more viruses and used less memory in the PC Pro test last year.

Both of those are free from download.com.

I use Avast on all my machines, has a nice Star Trek red alert siren when it finds something as well!
#30
Just picked up 2009 version and upgraded to 2010 for 7.99 for a 5 user liscence from the Works :D does slow my netbook while it updates when I turn it on but other than that its bloody brillant!! so all the family is sorted now for £8!

You will need Windows Defender as a firewall as Microsoft Essential is just anti-virus and Microsoft Essentials install on a genuine copy of Windows only.

I have installed microsoft essentials already and I hve a firewall already but i don't know which one. Is there any way I can find out?
#36
is windows defender free or would I have to pay for it?

Did anyone actually read my response? PC Pro rated AVG and Avast products better. They use less memory, cause less slowdown, catch more viruses and are FREE!

mate, you should have used GSI parser and posted results. Kaspersky staff would have a look at the logs and check what the problem was. http://www.getsysteminfo.com/

I have been using on systems at home and for family. So far it has been rock solid.

The Works is selling a 5-user 2009 version for £7.99
Barclays 3-user 2010 for free

are you making this up? AVG review 2010 PC Pro

There’s no escaping the fact that commercial packages do more, and some – such as the A-Listed Norton Internet Security 2010 – achieve higher malware detection rates than AVG. The free version of Avira's suite also detected 4% more malware than AVG when pitted against the same sample set.

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/software/355402/avg-anti-virus-free-9-0

and AVG frree offers no protection from rootkits, keyloggers, or drive-by downloads

I have Kaspersky AV 2009 and the license is due to expire soon. When I click via Kaspersky interface to re-new to the 2010 version is quoting something mad like £27 for the pleasure.

If I buy this and install directly will it regognise 2009 is already on my computer and update automatically (and give a new lincense). Hope that makes sense!!
Cheers
