thx for the HU - rep added :)
#8
Is this better than the paid-for AVG antivirus which was installed by a techie?

Cheers :)

If anyone doesn't know about it, you can find it at the bottom right of the online banking main screen once logged in. Its actually the Internet Security suite, rather than just the AV.

taken from OP "12 months licence with free hotline customer support.
"

bit of a play on wording there i feel by tesco's - once you bought it and need help its gonna cost you 10p/min

good deal OP, h and r added.

its only the AV , not the internet security , be really hot if it was.

But being just the AV , its not a really great price
#13
Then open a basic Barclays account and just use it for the IS ;)

In the past it's been possible to buy an old version of Kaspersky, download the latest one from their website and use the latest version with the licence key from the old version. I haven't tried this with the 2010 version, although I've seen reports that this still works.

I like Kaspersky, although personally I'd rather pay a bit extra to get the full Internet Security product rather than just the Anti Virus.

I agree 100% on both those statements

All anti viruses slow your pc down, some more so than others. For this reason I haven't used one for well over a year and have not had any problems, even though I use the internet more than most. I use three programs as a substitute for an antivirus and they keep me safe. All three are free programs (just google them, download and install). Stick to the free programs as there's no need to buy the full versions that you pay for.

1. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
2. Spybot Search and Destroy.
3. Spywareblaster.

These programs only take up system resources while they are being used (i.e. scanning). The first two should be updated and run every other day. A quick scan is fine unless you want to be extra cautious and don't mind the time it takes to do a full scan. The third one should be updated weekly and it does not perform a scan but protects invisibly. These programs will keep the nasties away from your system and allow it to run faster and smoother than if you had an anti-virus installed. They are fantastic programs you get for free. Just install them and say goodbye to resource hogging anti-viruses for ever.

I'm pretty sure you can use this key / activation code with the 2010 version. You've been able to do the same since 2007 onwards. Just download the 2010 trial and use the code to turn it into the full version.

Yes you can, i always do this, buy a cheap Antivirus pack for 3 users and just download the latest version on their website!

I`m doing it right now infact!

You can get the 3 user, 1 year "Security" package for £12.67 (before delivery) from Scan.

Actually says in the Scan description that it can be used with the latest version if you download it.

Kaspersky has become bloated in recent versions, I bought this last time it was on offer (it was £9.99 for the three user license back then) and quickly uninstalled it as it was slowing down my comp. Also haven't done anything with my spare two licenses, don't think I'd get much for them on eBay :)

EDIT:expired anyway

It's worthwhile also installing an antivirus such as the free Clamwin, which is on-demand only - i.e. does not run in the background, will only run when you right-click a file and scan it. The three programs you use are anti-spyware rather than antivirus.
