then why not take your £13.99 and open an account and leave the money in it

Because this does more than KIS!

I hope you realise it's for one year only. Next year it will be more money (that's how they get you). I would definately go for free Barclays KIS.

You could buy more than one copy and use the licence out of the 2nd box next year.

Personally, I've got KIS through Barclays (although this does do more).

That is not actually true. A licence update is issued after 1 year.

Putting the Barclay's thing to one side, I get confused about this every time as there is a 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 package available of most of these security tools - is there really any need to buy the latest if clearly they are still allowed to sell the 'old' ones? - sorry if silly question but mine is just about too expire and simply want to be sure my laptop and my son's are safe. Thanks.

No it doesnt matter you dont need the latest.
I stuck with older version of KIS as i prefered its firewall but sadly they do ot support it with database updates so i bought agnitum firewall and run KIS with all the firewall/network stuff turned off.

You only need to upgrade if you want one of the new features until they stop supporting your old version like it happened to me.

It doesn't matter what year you buy (for kaspersky anyway).

You are paying for the codes, you can download the latest version from their site. In fact if you install from the CD it usually suggests you do so.

The past 3 years or so I bought old versions of KIS (and then downloaded and installed latest version) because it was cheaper, but now for some reason, Pure is even cheaper, despite having more features.

Great find, just what I was looking for as my three year memebership is up for renewal within 30 days. Cheers.
