KEF speakers are world renowned for their quality and innovation and, with speakers like the IQ5, it's not hard to see why.

Key to the KEF IQ5 is KEF's unique Uni-Q treble system. Essentially, this involves positioning the treble unit within the throat of the woofer, thus creating a single point source for sound across the frequency spectrum. The end result of this is a broader, more cohesive sound that once experienced makes it hard to go back to conventional speakers. Uni-Q isn't the only technology that makes these such fantastic KEF loud speakers, though. Titanium coated, aluminium tweeters provide crystalline precision, with a smooth, even response. At the other end of the scale, the long-throw bass woofer provides a rich, well integrated bass that's pleasingly free from "boom". The over all sound quality offers broad imaging with believable depth, great realism and subtle detail retrieval. In short, the KEF IQ5 is one impressive sounding speaker!

As you'd expect from this leading speaker brand, the IQ5 is immaculately finished. It also features everything you'd expect in a quality speaker, including shrouded and bi-wirable speaker cable terminals, magnetic shielding and floor spikes.

For a speaker that's just as happy with music or home cinema, the KEF IQ5 gets you closer to "being there".

Nice pics!

Got this reply for those wondering if they will be suitable for smaller rooms (like mine)
Dear Sir,

The iQ5 can be used in smaller rooms as it is supplied with foam bass port
plugs.
The speakers would ideally be positioned out of the corners (at least 18"
away) and can be used against a rear wall (with the port plugs fitted).

We have found they work well in small or larger rooms with suitable
electronics.

The distance between the speakers should generally be the same as the
distance to the listeners.
An equilateral triangle is a good starting point for positioning the
speakers.

If you were 6 feet back from the speakers, the speakers would be 6 feet
apart.

Best Regards

Good price for a half decent set of speakers, be aware that there are newer versions of these out now: KEF iQ5SE, you won't find these on KEF's website as they are only showing the older versions (has been like that for months!) I'm sure if you shop around you can find these for a good price too

Whats different you ask? I'm sure they improved the crossover on the newer SE (special edition) versions, I'm sure there is something else, but I can't put my finger on it at the moment. TBH I didn't like the older versions, the new versions are much better

Also just noticed that they say they come with a 1 year guarantee, they should have a 5 year guarantee! As this is what KEF offer with their speakers, so make sure you get that if you buy a set.

is this a bit expensive for speaker and that amp could take a few weeks work to get this cash

A smaller speaker on stands, will always give a better sound , unless you have very large rooms.

Also, I find they look better, especially with 4 pillar stands that u can see through.

the KEF is ok for the price, nothing special, its not a high end speaker, and the looks are not good, IMO.

you'd probably be better off from a £ 100 pair of Mordant Shorts, on stands, for boths looks and sound.

AMP is nothing special either, way overpriced for what it is. Find an old Denon CLASS A amp for £ 40 - £ 80 and it will sound far better.

You wont go wrong with a pair of KEFS....

bloody good price

Love the performance + love the design - all I need is the £199

Hi,CA 740A well liked even at full price, bang for bucks, performance & features against more expensive amps etc etc.look at reviews on web, look in forums AVforums,AVSForums,HiFi Wigwam,Zerogain,Pinkfishmedia etc etc .
Same with Class A,Class AB,Class D,hybrids etc,Solidstate,Valve etc
Do you like rock,classical etc etc.Do you like warm & smooth,pacy & in your face,pratty :) etc.Get a system to suit you.
Then make your own mind up.
Also check out difference between Floorstanders & Standmounts, regards sound etc.
Whats suits one, don't suit another ie if you like bass,in general, you don't get as much with standmounts(yet again if its boomy in your room, you might not want it).
.A lot of Richers(& other retailers) have demo rooms, don't take peeps opinions alone, Go Listen. Will give you a idea, but your room will have a Big effect on the sound,Richers will normally give you a free 30 day home trial.
Its a vast subject & if you want to hear some opinionated peeps, its the subject for you :)

Cheers BOB

ps O & especially with speakers,a month or so down the line, they can sound a lot different(even totally different),normally for the better:)
O & don't take,HiFi mag reviews as verbatim IMO.

Hi Folks,

Picked up a pair of 5SEs a while a go (paid more than this for them) and I'm very happy with them.

I did have to relinquish a great set of B&Ws (to a lucky soul on this forum!), but the sound is rich and detailed. I can't comment on the SEs compared to the older model, but the looks are certainly a winner.

These speakers got excellent reviews back when they were released a couple of years ago. Especially when coupled with Cambridge Audio 640A and 640C separates, it was the recommended setup for the price.
#17
you relinquish a great set of B&Ws over KEFs you must be mad!

My thought exactly. B&W produce some awsome speakers. And a "great set" of B&W are worlds apart from these KEFs

I expect it wasn't through choice...

Probably a stupid question, how would these perform as part of a 5.1 setup?

Ideally, I want a system with which I can enjoy both my 360 and movies, as well as some quality stereo audio when the mood takes me.

They will perform very well in a 5.1 setup as they made several speakers in the iQ range, try looking for a KEF iQ2C centre speaker and a pair of iQ8DS di/bi pole rear speakers to finish the package off nicely

P.S. completely agree with the above B&W speaker statements  One of the, if not the best speaker manufacturers in the world.

Tempted by the 740a to be honest.. anyone got one?

If you listen to them and like them, they're probably a bargain.
If you buy them unheard and don't like them, then they're not such a bargain.
Even at £200 you MUST go and listen to them. Speakers are the end of the audio chain and need to be listened to not just bought on someone else's say so!
