Great speakers but caution on the sub it doesn`t like being left on , burns out. Unless they have rectified this problem now
#7
Great. I will stick with my logitech 5.1 for £35

I had this problem just last week, KEF sorted but was without the sub for 3 weeks. Really excellent sound and HD Dolby on this kit is worth the money.

*personally* I wouldn't advise one of these sets, but the price looks ok given the current retail prices.

unless you're more into aesthetics than acoustics, I'd look elsewhere (QA 2000's etc)

I think you will find your logitechs are probably not in the same league as the Kefs.

As Value for money, I think you will find the Logitech are on their own league.

The stand-by option used to be the issue. I seriously hope they have fixed it after all these years, despite denying it's existence lol.
Cost of repair was excessive but I managed to fix mine myself.

I believe the subwoofer design has been revised.

Had the 2005.1 edition of these speakers for many years now. I can sadly confirm that certainly my version suffered from the sub woofer burning out... twice. I think they've sorted this out now. The build quality of the satellite speakers is excellent and I'm now looking to get the sub replaced.

Despite what I said about the sub woofer, I would say that the package is excellent. The sounds are natural and don't boom. In fact when I bought them I tested them at my local hi fi dealer first. I watched a few DVD's with them and it was only when I turned to talk to the dealer that we both realised just how loud the the volume was set - super clear sound even when ramped up!

I just printed off the price from this website and got Richer sounds to price match it, they even beat it by £10 so I ended up paying £530 for the speakers and £53 for their extended warranty, and if you don't use the warranty you can go back and get a refund, although you have to remember to go back after 5 years.

Calm it people! ;)

I think what rodman was trying to say is that he doubts that these can sound 20x better than his logitech's do for 20x the price - and he's probably right, however the thing with hifi (or anything else) is the law of diminishing returns - a bugatti veyron only travels twice as fast as my wife's fiat punto but costs 100x more... - the point is that you'll not get many equivalent quality sat/sub surround packages for this price, and you certainly won't find this one much cheaper anywhere else.

These Q Acoustics deserve their own thread at £380:

5* What Hi-Fi speaker package awards 2010.

As for the Creative vs KEF argument. I bet these KEF's do sound at least 20x better!

Hi,

Just how much are these better then Z5500?

I have those connected to SB X-Fi (in my HTPC) for movies mostly, occasionally gaming.

Channels/effects are all handled by the X-Fi with 96Kbs analog out to Z5500s.

Room is 7x5m, centre (above TV) and L/R speakers are currently mounted on a chimney 3.5(c)-4.2m(L/R) from the sofa at about 25 degrees. Back speakers are only a few degrees behind sofa’s level.

Are KEF’s satellites properly full range or same as Logitech’s?

Thanks in advance.

(^ how old is your mum? - you may have a deal :)

they are an excellent set, & I *think* they have sorted the sub issue out now, I know that the QA's are highly regarded (follow the sheep! lol), but if you want a set that will please SWMBO & perhaps space is an issue, not to mention look a lot better...The Play deal are the silver ones, voting HOT!

KEF speakers sound is superb.

great speakers, great price. If you dont have £500, consider the Boston Soundware XS which kick the Kef 1000 series speaker's ass

Yeah it's about priorities I guess. I didn't follow those particular sheep - I've got four big behemoth floorstanders myself, the wife's the one that promises to obey eh? ;)

(don't tell the wife I said that!)

£500 for speakers!? for that price i hope they can scratch your balls and pay you complements about your figure too ...oO

I've got a set of these - very good sound quality and good quality bass. I've just upgraded my system to some ex-display KHT3005's so my set is about to go up on ebay. If anyones interested then drop me a PM before I have to go through the ebay hassle!
#30
Does anyone know if there are some alternative stands for these speakers apart from the Kef ones? From what I have read the Kef ones are not height adjustable and are £80 for a pair
#31
Great Speakers although I would pay the extra £100 and get the 3005SE

These are cheap speakers in the world of AV.

its no different to paying hundreds for computer equipment or cars... the main difference that a good pair of speakers will last longer.

Seriously, I can only laugh at some of the comments in this thread like "Ill stick with my £30 Logitechs". if you dont understand the difference a good set of quality speakers makes then do yourselves a favour and say nothing, that way you wont look like a complete spanner.
#35
Yeah I can't believe kids will spend £1k+ on gaming PCs that are obsolete within 3 years but balk at dropping £500 on quality speakers.

LOL these are lower mid range.

My speakers cost £850 fronts, £650 rears, £400 centre, £500 sub.

(not to wave me internet willy or anything)
