If you're into quality home entertainment, you'll know about KEF's KHT2005 system - the original won so many awards and 5-star ratings that it would be hard not to.

But even rave reviews can't prepare you for the experience of listening to the latest version of this high performance system. Those distinctive cast aluminum enclosures house KEF's unique Uni-Q arrays combined with sophisticated metal dome tweeters to deliver vocals that make your hair stand on end. As before, audiophile quality components are fitted throughout - and with KEF`s Uni-Q, everyone in the room enjoys the same superbly detailed sound image wherever they are sitting.

Satellite and Centre Speakers

KEF has always been renowned for design integrity, and the new KHT2005.3 is no exception. The cast aluminum enclosures of the satellite speakers are computer optimised to minimise internal resonance and distortion for a purer, cleaner sound. Being identical, there's a perfect tonal match between the front and rear surround speakers and the centre channel. The centre speaker can also be placed horizontally for better placement above or below the TV.
The ingenious multidirectional base has been improved and now makes it even easier to place satellite speakers virtually anywhere - on any flat surface, at any angle on walls, or on the optional stands. As they're fully magnetically shielded, there's no risk of interference with other equipment nearby.

Charismatic is the only word to describe the KHT2005.3, the latest evolution of the iconic and original 'egg - KHT2005.

Subwoofer- Kube 2

The KUBE-2 delivers a well defined and impressive bass that is sure to rock any home theatre. The 200W on-board Class-D amplifier has all the flexibility you need for personalising the output with frequency and level adjustments and a 'Bass Boost' control so any personal preference or room specific conditions can be catered for.

The KUBE-2 features a side-firing 250mm (10in.) long-throw bass driver and a complementing 250mm (10in.) ABR

Richersounds £499.95 but no Quidco. http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/kef/kht2005.3-silver/kef-kht2005.3-sil

Why is it that the black finished version of this system doesn't go down in price?

voted hot anyway.

Just wondering why you are quoting an alternative that's at least £20 more?

I have the 2005.2's, bought them several years ago and absolutely love them.
There was a subwoofer issue with the early production of my particular model but I hear that has been resolved.
Shockingly I fixed mine recently with a toothbrush (at least that saved me the £120 KEF want to charge).

I find them great for movies, gaming and surround sound music. However, with 2 channel sound I was less impressed until I got a receiver capable of multi-stereo.

My friend has been round several times to hear them demoed and is very keen to purchase a set. Unfortunately he need to fork out for a receiver too :)

Bear in mind, unless you have great places to position them you may find yourself paying quite a lot for floorstands, or forced to attach them directly to the wall.

my oh has has these for rear speaker with larger floor standing front speaker which is really good for cinema and gaming (guitar hero in surround sound cant be beat :-D ). we did have to lay out on a nice onkyo receiver to work them though but they look really neat & tidy up on the walls espec with the wires all buried in the plasterwork.

I thought you couldnt buy KEF from an internet retailer? For the warranty to be honoured, don't you have to buy it from a traditonal AV retailer?

Even bigger bargain on the 3005SE: http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/11586129/KEF-KHT3005-Home-Theatre-Speaker-System-Silver/Product.html, don't think I've seen those more than a penny < £1k

Thats a good price, I got the 3005SE but in black, managed to get it from Sevenoaks for £800. £750 is good, even though there silver. you'd need to spend at least £400+ on an amp to really warrant the 3005SE's though.
I must admit though I thought there was some clause about the 5 year warranty and internet purchases? Worth checking if your shelling out that kind of money. You'd be suprised how many hifi shops will match the internet sellers nowdays, especially with this kind of kit as its tough to sell in a credit crunch. A lot of shops will also come and set it all up for you, which is definately a plus point as these things need to be just right to get the best out of them

Got them hooked up to an onkyo 876, seriously the sub shakes the house! :w00t:

Make sure there the SE's though as the previous non SE's are not as good (although still pretty sweet and could be had for cica £500 if you can still find a set).

Just something to bare in mind that KEF have introduced a budget version of the 3005SE kit its called 3005SE K2. You dont get the best sub with the K2 package. The full version has the egg shape sub wihich is the one to go for (its £500 on its own!). the K2 sub is called 'cube 2'. Just something to consider when shopping around

I got these (the SE version) in black for £795 back in Jan 2008 (IIRC it was actually £845 but I got some authentic KEF black speaker stands to match which are normally £130 a pair). KEF later stuck the RRP up from £999.99 to £1299.99. They are stunningly good speakers give their size and so forth. I rarely get a chance to work them anywhere near their capacity.

You really need a pretty reasonable amp to do the speakers justice.

1000% recommended from me though

EDIT: Beaten to the same basic message by Chedixon

These really are the mutts nutts for surround sound TV watching. As another poster mentioned already, not the best for music.

They still look good after all these years too and something slightly more wife friendly than some of the others on the market.

It's more popular I'd guess.

You never get silver TVs these days and silver AV receivers are less popular so people all want black speakers to match.

That's a brilliant price!

I've been considering upgrading just the centre on my 2005.2's to a 3005SE.

These look just like my LIMIT speaker satellites!

I've got the 2005.2's as well, also with a broken sub. It's the second time the sub broke, first was under warranty and got repaired free, not got it fixed yet this time round - how did you manage to fix it with a toothbrush!?

Apparently the sub problems can occur if you rely on the auto standby to switch the sub on and off. The 2005.2 version, at least, should be turned off manually when not in use. This wasn't made clear in the original manual, but might have been fixed since: the Kube 2 in this package is a different subwoofer.

As for the package, it's brilliant! The egg speakers are very well built, look great (I've got my rears on the wall and the front pair on stands) and sound amazing, especially with a (working) sub woofer. I'm guessing the 2005.3 is even better. have a look here for a review:

http://whathifi.com/Review/KEF-KHT20053/

I paid £700 (including 30m of good speaker cable) for my old version about 6-7 years ago. So this is a great price.
#22
I got the black finished version 8 months ago from Richer Sounds (hate that rubbish white apple effect :o ) and I can say that I have never been so happy with a speaker system. From the hi trebles to the room shaking bass from the Kube2 woofer I can not complain. This system is definately worth it for this price range!! What are you waiting for?!!
#23
I take it this is cheap as it's the older version of the 2005.3?
Newer version has a different sub? http://www.trustedreviews.com/home-cinema/review/2009/08/28/KEF-KHT2005-3-K1-Speaker-System/p1

goes well with the onkyo amps...i have the kef 3005 and a onkyo 605...movies and music are superb, but agreed they are av speakers and there are prob better speakers suited to music (eg old fashioned boxed ones)

Cold, you can buy two packs of christmas wrapping paper for a quid in poundland.

well i bought mine £599.99 @sevenaoaks 2 years ago....i listened to them watching 300 on blu ray on a pioneer kuro 50in 1080p plasma via an onkyo 605 amp....so impressed bought the whole system, except opted for a 42in kuro as that was £2100 @ time (got it £1400) and the 50in was £3700 (couldnt justify that for a tv!!).......these speakers match superbly with the onkyo amps

I take it that even though this post has been tagged with "wireless" this is not actually a wireless system?
#31
No, these aren't wireless
#32
These or Logitech's Z5500 for my gaming system?
#33
I've got these with the Sony STR DA2400ES amp, for me it's perfect for quite a small living room. Big on sound, but not too obtrusive, these are spot on if you're looking for a quality product whilst being aesthetically cool. I've got all this linked up to Sky HD and a 360, and the sound on both is a knockout.

I actually think the sound is pretty good for music too, to be honest. I paid £630 for these with the amp, so this is a complete bargain in my eyes. Someone has posted up the 3005's which are a step up in quality, but I didn't have enough room to house the big centre speaker so went for these.
#34
Just mentioned these on the other thread (and will be buying them as I'd already been looking at them on play. . . just not pressed the button yet!) :)
#35
Everyone is going on about what wires to have with the speakers. I read this as being wireless set-up. Am I wrong?
