These speakers review very well, What Hi-Fi say "Superlative performance, living-room-friendly looks and decent value for money - we rather like it". Full review here: http://whathifi.com/Review/KEF-KHT3005SE/

Apparently KEF upped the RRP not too long ago to £1299: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/496176/kef-kht2005-3-home-theatre-speaker-/showpost.php?p=6495180&postcount=15

if you buy these speakers remember to buy decentish speaker cable....i use qed silver strand which is fine - think its about £5/metre, though i paid less...

thats cos they have updated the package since 2 years ago with an upgraded sub amongst other refinements

at the time it was such a good deal.....the sevenoaks in reading sold 8 speaker sets when i was there for just over 1 hour!!
took me 15 mins to decide to buy them after auditioning them and the tannoy, mission equivs
#9
just about had a heart attack there .......read it as £74.99 :w00t:

meh, still dont like the eggs design. But quality wise they are superb.
#13
What a load.... Go and buy something cheaper.
#14
Great deal!

Got mine 2-years ago for about £800 from sevenoaks. Paired them with an onkyo 607 and they are spot on!

Diddnt know about the new sub though???
#15
Price is great for these, the sound quality is excellent.

The design looks so dated though, although they don't look quite as bad as the picture in real life.

Great price though.

Hold on a minute, when I click the link it takes me to the silver 3005's, and NOT the 3005 SE'S.....

Where are the 3005 se's??
#17
I'd get some but timing's wrong for me.

Would love some at this price.

Not so, the price bump came about 6 months after they released the SE version which have the sub upgrade and tweeter amendments.

I price matched Frank Harveys with a local company to get mine for £795 in Jan 08. Might be possible to do the same if folks don't want to buy online?

SE = Silver Edition LOL

Well thats what a student loan is for ;)

Imagine Quidco!

And yer RAC discount.
#23
Guess my 5% voucher would come in pretty handy for this.

I got these after quite some research and auditioning. They have a detailed sound and are worth the asking price. I'm using a Yamaha DSP A1 amplifier with them. The only problem I've had was that the sub-woofer failed outside of the warranty and Kef charged £75 to repair this.
#25
Looks like there's a replacement coming next year.
http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/kef/kht3005-k2/kef-kht3005-k2

Edit: Looks like it's just a cheaper sub like with the 2005 package.
#27
I'll stick with my z-5500's. Fairly sure there wont be 500£ worth of difference.
#28
Bargain...ordered a set....been after something decent for a while but these never seem to be reduced.

Voted hot....hope the neighbours approve!
#29
credit crunch?
what credit crunch!

I paid over £4k each speaker for my home outside europe, got charged 100% special luxury import tax on those speakers :x
Never regret what I paid . got to say the whole set of 7.1 speakers wont depreciate at same rate as a BMW M5 :-D
#31
i have the 2005.2 if i remember correctly and they are fantastic!!! now if i could just source 2 more

awesome speakers, the design looks ultra modern, especially the sub which my mates were well impressed with. The updated sub came in with the SE's along with a new tweeter design (the SE's have what looks like fins on the tweeter).
I have to say the Black looks much better in the flesh than the silver as its ultra high gloss piano black but thats just my personal opinion I suppose. Anything under £800 for this 5.1 kit is excellent value. Be prepared to pay an absolute minimum of £400 for an amp to run them with the quality they deserve though (realistically you'd be better spending £600+ though). I run them with the Onkyo 876 and it sounds great, blurays and gaming are something else, even pleasantly suprised with there music performance.
It may seem very expensive to those who don't appreciate HiFi but I am not aware of anyone who's heard them who doesnt think they are excellent quality. The sub is something else, tight but capable of waking the neighbours without any trouble (even with a detached house lol)

Iam guessing there may be a replacement of some sort on the way though as the KEF prices stay pretty high until the eve of a new product, its the ideal time to get them though as you get a good price. Whatever the replacement though its gonna be tough to top these for the price/performance

Just something to bare in mind that KEF have introduced a budget version of the 3005SE kit its called 3005SE K2. You dont get the best sub with the K2 package. The picture in this deal shows the egg shape sub (HTB2SE) which is the one to go for (its £500 on its own!). the K2 sub is called 'cube 2'. Just something to consider when shopping around

Reviews;

3005SE - K2 (budget (lol) package
http://whathifi.com/Review/KEF-KHT3005SE-K2/

3005SE - full spec package (comes with HTB2SE sub) (just read the for and against lol)
http://whathifi.com/Review/KEF-KHT3005SE/

Heres a better pic of the sub on its own (the one that comes with the full spec package)

Yup, if your taste is tuned only to white lightening cider, chances are you won't have a clue how to tell the quality of a bottle of wine ;)

Waste of money, buy Bose instead.

the only problem with sats is that they are still not a patch on full size speakers no matter how expensive the sats are.

i demoed these as i was going to upgrade from my then existing AE AEGO T sat system (another expensive quality system). i noticed that whilst the kefs were an improvement on my sats they were not worth the additional £250 outlay.

I then took the advice on the avforums and bought some Tannoy F1 floorstanding speakers and the difference was huge.

if you have the space then good quality floorstanders will wipe the floor with any satelite system.

Lovely speakers!
Sound Awesome especially when watching something like transformers =D

I auditioned these and Mordaunt-Short Genies a few years ago and settled on the Genies. The Genies even gave the £1400 5005's a run for their money.

MS don't make Genies any more but they do have these:

http://www.audiovision.co.uk/mordaunt-short-alumni-5-1-speaker-pack-18509-0.html

Much better value IMHO. I can also highly recommend Audio Vision - superb CS even 3 years after purchase.

What amp would you recommend running them thru? I love the KEF ones too so it would be a hard choice.
