Kinect £79.00 at ASDA (instore & online)

From Monday ASDA will be selling the Kinect Sensor (with Adventures) for £79. This starts this Monday (23rd) and is only on for one week.

Went to my local asda entertainment section and they scanned it and came up £129.99 and had no clue about this deal
- chrisvenn

Deal actually starts Monday according to ASDA staff.
- Infinite Element

Just want to apologise for giving the wrong date, the offer does start on Monday, sorry everyone.

Scanned at £129.99 at my local smaller asda but then went to a big ASDA and it went through at £79.99 this morning, so try a bigger asda if your local one doesnt have this price.

It's well documented some of the older X360's won't be able to read retail discs after the update....Microsoft are releasing a new disc format to combat piracy but it has the unfortunate effect of messing with a percentage of existing units. The good news is Microsoft say they can tell which units will break and will replace them. Fingers crossed mine breaks and I get a low power silent one...if they exist......

Actually it's not to do with the new update but an old one. The new firmware yet to be released has been tested and doesnt cause problems apparently.....

@MrKez, not too long now.....They will be around the £50 mark by 3rd quarter to help boost end of year sales.

@loopie, +1 on the "hoping mine is too old and breaks front!" X) My 360 has clocked up more airmiles than me and I travel for a living :D

You should already know if you are affected as your 360 would already be experiencing disc read errors on game discs.

My xbox 360 has stopped playing all game discs, thinks they are dvds then fails to read, I contacted Microsoft a couple of weeks ago and told it would cost £99 unless it had RROD.

Won't even play new discs out of the packet but they play fine on my mates system. If I have read the thread ok then how do I find out about the console replacement scheme mentioned above, any help greatly appreciated. Console is just over 2 years old.

I'd say the laser has had it, wear and tear. So will have to buy a new laser or a new console.

Anyway of "contracting" RROD?

From what I have been told you should have received an email from MS if your console is in the batch that was affected. If you have no email then I dont think its the update that has caused your problem. The MS contact section detailing warranty and repair can be found here http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/pages/contact-us.aspx

Even if you did the chances are they would replace the motherboard and send back the unit with the same faulty DVD player. Unless you're lucky and they just swap the whole console. Think one reason the RROD happened in the past is because of overheating e.g. keeping the Xbox in an enclosed space for lengthy periods.

Check this out for more info;
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/18/new-xbox-360-update-incompatible-with-some-models-ms-offering-r/

If you are getting 'disc unreadable' or 'disc unsupported' error messages then it quite possibly is caused by the past update.

As just posted you should have got an email but I guess if you havent been online much maybe you slipped through the detection net. I would contact MS again and refer them to their statement (which seems to suggest they are still contacting people about it).....

"Following a recent update to our system software, we have become aware of an issue that is preventing a very small number of Xbox 360 owners from playing retail game discs," said the company. "This issue manifests itself a as a unique 'disc unreadable' or 'disc unsupported' error on the screen. We are also able to detect this issue over Xbox Live and are proactively reaching out to customers that may be impacted to replace their console."

Take it back to the store you bought it from, as they have an obligation to fix it under the Sale of Goods act. 2 years service is less than you'd expect so they have to make arrangements to make it right. The Sales of Goods act says the seller is obliged to do this no the manufacturer. Call Consumer Direct if you want to check this out.

Don't know if it is going to be advertised, I know the Wii deal will be advertised in the Sun, but ASDA must think that is a better deal for some reason. Not sure if it is online either.

Reports are saying that Child Of Eden (sort of sequel to Rez) on the 360 will be the first essential Kinect title. You can play it using a controller and using Move on the PS3 but the previews are suggesting that it was always designed for Kinect and you are missing out otherwise.

My 360 recently stopped reading discs, so I bought another dvd drive from ebay and replaced it, now I'm getting the error "to play this disc please put it in an Xbox 360" or words to that effect. I'm just wondering if any updates could have messed it up or the firmware is wrong on the new drive. I was going to ask the seller for a replacement drive, I've tried various fixes that I read about on the net and none have remedied the problem. So I'm wondering if it's faulty hardware or firmware.

btw how rude of me not to say thanks to the op for putting this deal up, good price. heat added.

this is the type of person that all retail staff wish would die on their way home when they start quoting sales of goods acts they don't understand.

I think the games section only opens at midnight for "special" launches like COD and FIFA.

This is a great deal. Will be even better with my £20 ASDA games discount which I got when I traded my old games in.
