Review

An epic film set in Europe and the Middle East, Kingdom Of Heaven follows one man's struggle to better himself and the world around him. Orlando Bloom stars as Balian, a French blacksmith who is mourning the deaths of his wife and baby when his estranged nobleman father (Liam Neeson) arrives and asks him to join the Crusades in Jerusalem. Mindful that conducting the Lord's work will help him atone for his sins, Balian agrees and embarks on the perilous journey. Along the way, he reveals his gifts of inherent goodness and fair treatment of all human beings.

Upon reaching Jerusalem, a city where his meagre beginnings no longer matter, Balian earns respect and fealty while secretly courting the capricious wife of the ruthless Guy de Lusignan (Marton Csokas) who seeks a way to destabilise the uneasy Christian-Muslim truce brokered by King Baldwin (Edward Norton) and wage war against his religious enemy...

Director Ridley Scott bring the scale of his previous epic Gladiator to this film while confronting hundreds of years of religious conflict. At times controversial in both its content and production difficulties, populated by an all-star cast and held together by a sterling central performance from Orlando Bloom, Kindgom Of Heaven is a multi-faceted classic of a humble man who chooses his fate, instead of accepting the fate given to him at birth.

good price for good movie...
but as much as the Ridley Scott attempts to make this movie as fair as possibe to both Christians and Muslims, i'm afraid this caused him to make alot of history mistakes..I know its not the place to review it, but I just wanted to mention that..

But since this is a film based on historical events and not a documentary, any historical inaccuracies dont detract from what is a great film, imho. What does detract from Ridley Scott's story though, is the heavy editing that he had to do for this theatrical release. The Director's Cut is much better (according to many on the imdb site).

I have the 4-disc Director's Cut but since I never saw the theatrical release I cant compare them myself, but the comments I read made me wait for the Director's Cut to be released on DVD. You would have to pay a premium for that version compared to this 2-disc release though. The lowest price I can see for the Director's Cut is £16.99 which is £1 more than what I paid at the start of the year when I bought it from amazon (they charge £24.98 for it now!).

I guess it depends how much of an aficionado you are for this sort of film. This is certainly a good deal for the 2-disc edition though.

I watched this film and loved it and when I heard about the exitense of the directors cut I was happy, its nice that it exists most people do not want to sit through long films like that.

Another 5/5 epic from the Ridley Scott/ Hans Zimmer combo imo. My fac character was King Baldwin, looking forward to watching it in HD
