£12.96 @ Zavvi
Seen as how DDR2 prices have gone through the roof recently, I think this is a decent price, 1GB of DDR2 Kingston Value RAM costs £17.99 on Play. http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3274794/Kingston-KVR…

Awesome deal. Is the £2 off £20 deal still on? If so, you could get two sticks for under £24.

Shame I need some DDR (for my old machine) rather than DDR2 - I assume they're not backwards compatible?

Good price.

I was just looking for some 2GB sticks earlier today, but can't find them on the Zavvi site. Maybe I'm being stupid, but I can't even find these 1GB sticks by searching the site!

I really don't want to pay £80 for 4GB of RAM (only have 2 x 2GB slots)! I couldn't believe the prices I was seeing.

Great find. Just ordered 2 and used the £2 off code, 2 gig for less than £24

Not backwards compatible. I was in the same boat as you as I needed to put some more ram in an old machine, but because ddr ram was phased out in favour of ddr2, and ddr2 in favour of ddr3 the prices have just risen and risen.

With the price of ddr ram at £28 a stick you're better off ripping out your motherboard and getting a cheap new one for £30 then put in the newer ddr2 ram. New motherboard+ddr2 ram =£56

Even if you just pair up 2 sticks of ddr ram with what you've got it will still cost you = 56! get my drift?

Flog your ddr ram on ebay you'll make triple its original value and then you've updated your pc in the process for peanuts.

A PC is a Desktop. How many pins would this have, no mention of this.
#12
My mistake I always thought a PC was a personal computer and a laptop was a laptop, If I ammend the title to include desktop PC it will be one whopping title! but just to clarify here goes.

I can only go from what I can see on zavvi's site. Which isn't much this appears to be 240 pin

A PC is a desktop, a laptop or anything else that is personal and a computer, even a MAC is technically a PC :)

This will be standard 240 pin DIMMs. If you want Laptop RAM you would be getting 200 pin SO-DIMMS (which are a different shape).

Edit - 144 pin SODIMMS are of course the older SDRAM - god that makes me realise that my just binned laptop had RAM that was 4 versions old.

I remember how last summer Play were selling 2GB sticks of Kingston value RAM for I think it was around a tener? I don't really remember, all I know is. I bought 8GB worth of the stuff =s This was possibly due to a misprice or whatever... Anyhows, heat added!

If you click the "go to deal" you'll go straight to them.

If you go onto zavvi.com and search for "ddr2 ram" it's the first result on the left hand side!

Yep, I was being stupid. When someone brings out "DRR2 RAM", I'll should have better luck finding it!

Shame there's no offer on 2GB sticks though. Can't find any from anywhere reputable for under £40!

You can get 2GB PC2-6400 sticks off ebay from reliable sellers for around £20, or at least you could a couple of weeks ago.
#20
mumbojumbo
Try Ebay Item # 250611816140 for 2GB PC2-6400, Micron Technology branded (same as Crucial, Transcend, etc) @ £19.99 + del (£3.00 1st item, 50p subsequent items). Seems to be a batch pulled from unused Dell systems.

Cheers mate. My motherboard says it will only take 533 or 667. So I assume 800 won't work with my mobo. Is that correct?

Thanks for looking anyway!

If they have 2 free slots and the slots are paired opposite each other i.e slot 1 with 3 and 2 with 4, will it make a massive difference?

I only ask as I've got 800mhz in mine and 2 free slots? and the ram I removed was 667mhz in favour of the HyperX last time it was on offer.

If you have sticks of different speeds in a machine they should work with no issues, but bear in mind all the sticks will run at the specs of the slowest sticks.
