2gb for $10.99 surely??

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2396

Not sure if a copy though. I have a kingston mini DS I bought in China and it has been good for 2 years...so I wouldn't be THAT concerned...
#5
is it even genuine (because its dealextreme!)
#6
Scan have the same card for less... but their postage is extortionate. If you live local to their store you can pick one up though.

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=583927

I have seen some talk that maybe the DealExtreme cards are copies... but I didn't look into it too much. If you buy more than one you soon find out as the serial numbers are the same.

Good value for what you get.

299 from dvd.co.uk and youll get quicker, get quidco too

Are they class 4?

Speed class ratings only apply to SDHC.
These are standard micro SD

My mate got one of the kingston 2gb microsd cards from dealextreme with their DSTT card, but I've had nothing but problems with it. They're trying to get it replaced because they can't format it or delete/copy files onto it.

From what I gather most people have been happy and okay with their cards from dealextreme. Personally I got sandisk and kingston both from play.com and have been using them without any problems.

Bought two of the 2 gig versions, one for a friend who uses it in her EDGE card and works fine....and the other in my CycloDS card which has no problems (even plays the troublesome games with ease) and I find the loading time on the CycloDS much quicker using the the jap kingston mem card than my sandisk card (with same memory size).

Yes, cards above 2GB are generally SDHC but they are not necessarily faster. Depends on the speed rating of the individual card.

thats a bargain, mind you prices are falling rapidly, 8gb is only 20 quid

So which is going to be faster and best value? I've read many times that the made in Japan are faster. I want to use it in my acekard2.

The 2gb cards will be faster than a class 4 SDHC. I use one in my r4ds with no problems.
Can't really comment on the SDHC card as I've never used one.
#23
Dealextreme are Japan versions which are quicker and better than UK version of same card.

I have bought 10 2Gb Japanese ones for various DS carts and have never had any problems.

Dealextreme 2gb would be the fastest - the DVD.co.uk is probably Taiwan made and not guaranteed to give you made in Japan at all. You could do better with SDHC and get class 6.

First of all I can’t make a certainly common on the genuinity of this product as I certainly don’t know, but what I know is DX is a Honk Kong based company which offers a market place for a variety of products “online shopping center” using its own words, I doubt if they actually buy in and stock all products in their warehouse rather then transfer different order to different suppliers, thus the product you get might from another supplier in Hong Kong or near by region (and most of the “be aware” sellers on eBay are from Hong Kong if you remember)

Secondly, guys those are "Assembled in Japan" not "Made in Japan", the chips inside the card are probably made in China as nowadays most of them are "Made in China" and probably share the same production line with the “UK and EU version’s”. Moreover Kingston is a USA company unlike Sony it would not make sense to produce their product in Japan, the cost efficiency is a downside isn’t it? Therefore I would doubt if this "Japan version" would actually be faster then the one you get from UK market unless someone could show me a real benchmark test to convince me.

Lets look at the alternatives on the UK market;

Play.com offers free delivery and 4% cashback from Quidco.
Sandisk Micro SD 2GB £6-99
Play.com Micro SD 2GB £4-99 (own brand)

W2w.com offers free delivery as well and 6% cashback form Quidco.
Kingston 1GB microSD card (SDC/1GB) £3-74
Kingston 2GB MicroSD (SDC/2GB) £6-39
SanDisk microSD 2GB Card £6-77

Same again those are not guaranteed to be genuine products, but at least they are from UK and you are not paying too much for them.

I have done a further research and the result suggests that I am not quite right above. Some people made the following common "Kingston Japanese microSD cards are re branded Toshiba cards and are significantly faster than the Taiwanese cards ...." if this is true then it might suggest that the "Japanese version" could be faster then others as it is simply not a Kingston product - it is a re-branded Japanese made Toshiba card, and this make sense.

I have an acekard 2 also and I've tried both my 2gig kingston jap card in it and my 2gig sandisk in it and found that it crashes many times while playing a game, some times after 10 minutes, sometimes 5, sometimes 1, and sometimes as soon as you load the game - usually games with complicated maps such as theme park....though it does it for all eventually....I think 30 minutes is the most amount of time it went without crashing.

It might just be a bad acekard 2 or it might just not like non SDHC cards (I've yet to try a SDHC card with it). My mem cards work fine in other DS cards as I mentioned in my first post so it's not the mem cards themselves.

It may work fine for your acekard 2 but I thought I'd say just in case it does happen to you....either way it's probably cheap enough to make a mistake on.

What's all this Japan vs. Taiwan talk? I tested a few cards for another thread a while back and found that the Kingston 2GB microSD card performed far better than a Sandisk 1GB microSD card, both with Taiwan printed on the back.

I'm fairly sure both were sourced from DVD.co.uk. I received a 4GB Sandisk microSD card today with China stamped on it, achieved a very respectable write speed throughput.

IMHO the consensus is quite clear, the larger capacity cards perform far better than their smaller capacity predecessors - the Play.com SDHC branded cards can't compete, it managed just under 6 MBps when tested which is relatively very poor.

Forgot to add, I have found that the builtin reader found in my laptop (Dell) is fairly poor.. a cheap external equivalent beats it hands down.

I ordered a 2GB card a few days ago and received it today. Brilliant! :-D
