agree this is ridiculously cheap if you use the google checkout for this... also similar ebuyer extra value ram for £2 cheaper than this too... http://www.ebuyer.com/product/115961/product_info/rb/27035268867

That is just insane. I bought without the checkout offer for slightly more and thought it was very reasonable. Perfect time to stock up.
#3
is the google checkout just a one of offer for 1st time buyers?

Okay, I'm building a new computer... damn ... my credit card is happy though.
That Sparkle 7600GT, 2GB RAM, a MicroATX AM2 motherboard, an X2, and a MicroATX SFF case... and that 500GB hard drive... gahhh
#6
What CPU speeds will this support??
#7
Cheers! Just ordered one. This will be ok in my new Dell E520 wont it?? ;o)
#8
Okay, I've placed 7 separate orders via ebuyer via google checkout to save £70, at the expense of having to pay around £2.50 shipping per item. Still, saving £50 ain't bad, and I'm getting a nice shiny computer to buy all the damn cheap PC games I keep getting because of play.com.

sdl811 - there shouldn't be a problem regarding CPUs, the 65nm Athlon 64 X2 4800+ i just ordered for £75 shipped will work with it just fine, as should any Intel chipset.

Voted +, ordered 4 of these! This same item:
costs £44.65 + delivery on dabs.com, and no Google Checkout bonus. Get this while it's still available at this price!!!

If you bought the same Dell E520 as me (the one that came with the 22" TFT screen), then the memory will work OK, however mine came with 1GB DDR2 in dual channel configuration.
I think that adding a single 1GB stick of memory will stop the dual channel memory access, and might slow the memory bandwith down?

I think the correct way to add an extra 1GB of memory is to add two 512MB ram modules, thus allowing the machine to stay in dual channel memory mode for the full 2gig of RAM.

Try two of these...http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/91139

I think it works out at the same price(ish)...£28.66 including the google discount

Hope that helps - it's what I've just ordered !

Thanks

I think it would be better to ebay the 512 Ram that came with the Dell 520. Then order 2 of this RAM This RAM runs faster plus you still have 2 places left for more RAM if you need it later.

Same here; this is silly money for branded DDR2-667. I'm glad I sold my Corsair on eBay for £94 recently. :-D

No you need DDR RAM.

DDR2 RAM have the names PC2-xxxx. So in the above case itd be called PC2-5300 or PC2-5400. Slight variation depending on the firm if they round up or down.

The xxxx bit is worked out buy taking the clock speed, 667mhz in the above case, multiplying it by 64 (because it has 64 bit bandwidth) and then divided by 8 to convert it from bits to bytes.

666.66666666667 x 64 = 42666.666666666667

42666.66666666667/8 = 5333.333333333

So working backwards from pc2700, your RAM speed is 2700*8 = 21600 , 21600/64 = 337.5

More likely, 333mhz but because of rounding errors we get the above.

System Memory 1024 MB (PC2700 DDR SDRAM)

Is that what you have Jlloban ?

If so same as me and this deal isn't for you (bad luck for us!).
#37
Thanks for the 2 great links, I used Everest Home Edition to see what motherboard I have, but I still need advice below is what it came back with:

CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 2800 MHz (21 x 133)

Motherboard ID 06/30/2004-RS350-SB300-6A664PREC-00

Motherboard Name Unknown

Motherboard Chipset ATI Radeon 9100 Pro IGP

System Memory 512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)

BIOS Type Award (06/30/04)

Could I still use the Kingston memory?, or can anyone reccommend some good memory for the setup I already have.

Thanks for all your help
