Is this memory likely to fall in price by much more? It is the max speed my laptop will take and it is a good price, especially when I paid £130 a few years ago for ddr400 desktop ram for 2 x 512mb crucial!

I have a dell inspiron 1501 from a deal on here and has 2 x 512mb slightly slower ram and shared gfx memory. Running vista basic and it's not as fast as it could be.

Any idea which of the above 2 is better? Also, how do I check whether it will work with my laptop? I'm using Toshiba Equium A100-147...

Cheers!

Your laptop comes with 2 x 512MB PC4200 533mhz so peformance wise if you use the PC5300 ram it will work but only run at 533mhz instead of 667mhz.

Its cheaper ram aswell so i would go with that one. If your running Windows Vista i would recomend buying 2GB because that price is incredibly cheap and Vista would work well with that ammount.

I purchased 2GB of laptop ram from dabs.com about 3 months ago and paid £50 and thought that was a really great deal but that ram has a quicker clock cycle time and has lifetime warrnaty (not sure of the warranty on this ram though). These prices are stupid though to miss out.

How do you install this? do you have to open the laptop up or does it go in a slot?

That depends on which laptop you use but it was very simple for my MacBook:
1. Open the battery section (using a coin :-D) and remove the battery.
2. Remove the L-shape cover (using a small screw-drive).
3. Surely press the 2 latches to take out the 2 installed RAM sticks.
4. Put the new sticks in and do the reverse process.

It may be different for other laptop models but it'd be generally easy. You can find some videos telling you in detail on YouTube as well.

Btw, bought 2 RAMs of exactly this model for my MacBook 3 weeks ago for 16.49 each => Do not miss out this offer if you plan to upgrade your computer.

It will work no problem.

Thanks for the reply. It also says I currently have DDR PC2-5200 installed, so why is it advising I use DDR2?

Thanks, waj1234 and wilkinn (for the detailed explanation)!
I did a search on play.com and they don't have Kingston's 2GB ram, do they? Where is the best place to get the 2GB then? I might go for it if the price is right...

This memory is compatible with MacBooks and is a hell of a lot cheaper than what Apple charges, £29.98 for 2GB of RAM delivered is an excellent price, don't miss out. I paid £115 for this stuff about 14 months ago.

I purchased 2 x 1GB sticks of ram not 1 x 2GB stick of ram. The 2GB sticks are still expensive compared to this stuff and doubt the price will be coming down anytime soon.

Dabs sell 2GB stick of ram for £46.98

I see, I thought you were referring to 1x 2GB stick. I wonder why 1GB is getting so cheap...

Thanks again.

No it won't harj. Your laptop uses DDR, this is DDR2. Unfortunately DDR is older and as is usual with pc stuff more expensive.

Both 533mhz and 667mhz are of the same price now. I bought the 667mhz anyway for my Toshiba Equium A100-147. Bought 2GB (2x1GB). Thanks to OP and can't wait for it to arrive!

Fantastic price! Voted hot!

Is this the correct upgrade for the AOL/Dell laptops?
