You should go for the Sabatier set EVERY time.. http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=311&storeId=91&productId=26599&langId=-1&cache_entry=-1&parent_category_rn=&parents_parent_category_rn=&top_category_rn=&showSubCategory=&top=Y&fromPage=SearchResults . at £19.99 they are a steal....take it from me (look at my user name)..unless you can afford Global knives.
Look after them and they will last you a life time....just like when you but pots and pans, go for Le Creuset...anything else is just false economy.

Rubbish. You aren't being discriminated against, thats just pathetic.

They charge more, because the couriers they use charge more. Sure, Royal Mail don't charge any extra to post things between UK/NI, but couriers do and people generally dont trust Royal Mail delivering anything more useful than a one legged man at an **** kicking competition.

Stop being bitter.

Unfortunately Sabatiers are out of stock.

Also, might be worth mentioning which Sabatiers to go for, e.g. stay away from Judge sabatier, they fall to pieces in no time!

Just phoned my local store (Waterlooville) and they have them in stock but priced at £29.99 - chap said he would price match though so will pick them up for £25! :)

The sabatiers are available instore for £29.99

Edit - oops just seen the other post immediately above! (also the kitchen devils are £29.99 instore)

To those in N Ireland who either expect us mainlanders to subsidise you via the Royal Mail or have private couriers to take the extra cost on the chin - tough. You shouldn't live somewhere that's relatively inaccessible if you want low delivery charges (& last time I looked on the map there was a fair bit of salty water between Northern Ireland & the main Robert Dyas warehouse)

Just remember - its the smooth, wide, unjaggy end you hold and I am sure you will be OK.

cheffy doesn't have a clue what he is talking about... if you were a decent chef, which oviously you are not, you would go for Wüsthof knives (end of)
#22

yawn [heads to the kitchen to use a blunt knife, unable to buy Sabatiers due to high P&P]

Sabatier can be a bit hit and miss from what I've read. It isn't a brand as such and many companies make knifes using the name. Some are not great quaility.
#26
Now out of stock ...

Voted hot anyway as I bought just the carving knife a couple of months age for £25!

I agree with these comments. Why DO we have to pay more? Some parts of mainland Britain are further and harder to reach than Northern Ireland. It is bad enough that we already pay more for just about everything without being discriminated against through shipping costs! Voting COLD for this reason.
#29
I'm with dromoreboy on this one. Wusthof would be the knives of choice, however, they don't sell for £19.99!!! Wouldn't use Sabatier since they were taken over several years back, would rather go for a decent Victorinox set.

Cos you live out the way! (& have you seen the cost of fuel lately?)

Do you expect everyone else to subsidise you?

Don't use the old chestnut about being part of the UK either - for a private courier it's ultimately about how accessible your place is. The courier has two choices here....

1. Charge you more for delivery cos you choose to live out the way.

2. Split the extra cost around everyone else.

Guess which one option (thankfully) the majority prefer?
#31
Us Nirish should be ashamed to push up the price of postage for those on the mainland. I'm sure it costs alot more to send to us than to Scotish Islands, Gibraltar or to troops stationed abroad. [/sarcasm]

Good retailers should all offer Royal Mail as an option and I really think it'd be worth their while doing this as it will generate extra business and won't add greatly to handling overheads.

Yous think you live in rip off britain? Should try rip off NI:

2 bedroom terraced house in dodgy area = £160k
Fish and chips = £4.50
Delivery from Ebuyer = standard delivery + £15
#32
Lol this is funny, the T&C on delivery are CLEARLY there, they can charge whatever they want to wherever they want, if you dont agree with it DONT BUY!!!!!

Sabatier is the name given to the style of knife. I have the Richardson 'V' range and some are ok while others have tarnished badly. I also have the Stellar FM range and these are far superior in terms of quality and retention of a sharp blade.

Not every one can afford Wusthof...DONKEY:thumbsup: ...end of...

i didnt vote this cold by the way, just cause our postage sux doesnt make it a bad deal.
its just circumstances.
