Whether you like the military or not, they do dress smartly so yes, a military recommendation on shoe polish probably is a good one.

Can these things be used to simply colour black leather shoes that have lost their colour in some parts? The ones i have aren't the shiny type, rather a matt colour, can i used this as a dye rather than for polishing?

I've been told it works well on black cars too but don't tell anybody!

What you are looking for is shoe cream. Meltonian is good if you can find it. Else, just any shoe cream is fine.
