There are many grants available to get your loft insulated to the recommended depth of 250-300mm. I have just qualified for a 70% grant - it means you let someone else do the dirty work for you for a few quid rather than lug awful materials about and up into your loft and the associated hazards. My folks got a 100% grant for their loft and cavity wall insulation .

Laid 12 rolls of this today & it's easy to use - some of the (recent) insulation would tend to tear when moved & this plastic wrapped space blanket was much easier to slide around whole. Only mistake I made was when I was feeling ethusiastic I unwrapped one quckly & rolled it through the loft hatch :)

Thing is I'm a single bloke with no dependents & don't qualify for grants. I think you need to be on certain benefits or over 70 to get it done for free. Anyway, I'm not arguing that it's better to do it yourself - I'm going to be sneezing black dust out of my nose for the next couple of days :?

All I was asked was the age of my house (20 years) did I have loft insualtion (no) - thats it. I got 70% grant. £200 it is going to cost me to have a very big loft kitted out to 300mm depth. And no black dust for me:-)

I bought a load of these to do my loft, also got another 10% off at the checkout as B&Q are celebrating their 40th Birthday so got a voucher for 10% off until the end of the month...

I think you will find grants are available for everyone. I got a grant and I am a single bloke with no depenants as well.
