Kobo White/Black Mini eReader reduced from £59.99 to £29.99 at WH Smith online or in store

benjaminvbenjaminv

Walked in the Reading Oxford Road WH Smith store and was watching their Kobo ebooks one of the very nice staff double checked for me that their Kobo ebooks will be largely reduced from tomorrow September 1st, 2013. He has mentioned two models, the mini version which is here:
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/kobo-mini-white-ereader/product/36144563
black or white, will be reduced from £59.99 to £29.99,
the ordinary sized ones, which are here:
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/kobo-touch-black-ereader/product/35487678
black or white, will be reduced from £79.99 to £39.99,

Sounds like an option if you are not only after the very-easily-out-of-stock Nook simple touch.

P.S. now online too if you are bothered heading to your high street store. Be quick if you like it.

Ah, the poor man's Nook ;)

But you're right. It's still a good bet if you can't find a Nook.

Easily better than a Nook Simple Touch.

We have a Sony T1, a Nook simple touch and a Kobo. The Sony is waayyy overpriced but very good, the Nook again is very good but its just a bit too "square" for my liking. The Kobo is also very good and is probably the most comfortable to use. The textured back may look odd but it makes it the easiest to hold and unlike the Sony its incredibly easy to change margins and line spacing.

But to be honest the 7 inch Kobo isn't worth the extra £10 at £39 ifyou can get a Nook for £29.

This is the mini version though at £29.99, as it's more expensive for the comparable touch version to the nook simpletouch.

Oh, this is the Kobo Mini? In that case I retract my above statement.

Probably worth putting that in the title.

My Kobo Touch is better than the wife's Kindle Touch unless you want to play audiobooks - Kobos don't do mp3s.
The Nook is better than both when it's rooted though s you can load the Kindle app on it and use the Nook store and the Kindle store for books. I've not tried loading the Kobo app on it, but it might work as all.

Kobo app works on my rooted Nook but I may have had to find a version that worked, I had trouble with some reading app but can't recall which.

The kobo doesn't run android, it runs its own proprietary linux build so no.

You can hack it, but the usefulness of doing so is extremely limited.

I have a kobo mini and its much easier to carry around than the bigger Nook or Kindle. It's a definite handbag or pocket library size. It's much easier to hold for lengths of time because of the size. I'm glad I bought it and not the Nook. The Nook looks bulky, cheap and nasty next to the Kobo mini. It's also a great size for my son (15) to take his on the bus to school in the morning and my sister was really pleased when I let her borrow mine during a recent hospital stay. Plus if you're really smart you don't buy the really expensive case. Pc world do a portable hard drive neoprene case for a few pounds that the Kobo mini fits in perfectly.

And I guess I should read the P.S and stop looking stupid!

guess it depends on whether you read quickly. Would drive me mad having to change page every few seconds on a mini
