I have a 14mp kodak, very cheap, very poor. Cost me £95, bought it as a present a year ago. This will be ok at £40 though I would think.

Yes this is a cheap camera, I would say good as a first camera or a back up...

My father bought this a few weeks ago for £55 not very impressed with the quality (very plastic) compared to my Fuji A170 you also have to down load the instructions and software i think, bonus you get a case included so for £40 it is probably worth it. :)

Nice colour! Does it come with a battery or do have keep buying them?

AA power, have to keep buying them.

Very good price but mediocre camera. Don't expect great things from it.

Suppose for £40 you're getting what you pay for, so not really that great a bargain. Not voting either way.

Looks like this one (also from Asda but available online) looks more promising...

You dont have to keep buying them, there's a new revolution in batteries, they are called "Rechargeable" and can be re-used up to 1000 times.

this seems ok for a budget camera, cheaper than walmart in the US and doesn't have too many bad reviews (mainly seems to be pictures taken in dark can be grainy)

I had one that took batteries it only lasted about an hour and took 4 batteries. I got a charger and rechargable ones but eventually they ran out too, in the end I bought a new Camera that had a battery that could be charged like a phone. It's only a 7MP so I'm on the lookout for a new camera for my hols, anyone know a decent one that has a chargeable battery, at fair price?

Personally I refuse to buy any samsung camera, camcorder or dvd......Not sure if I would buy any other stuff they make. In the last 3 years in my family we had 2 camcorder, 2 digital camera and 1 hdd/dvd player that developed fault. We managed to get the camcorders repaired as fault developed straight away....Not impressed so I am boycotting samsung, especially any photo/video item.

Nothing wrong with 7Mp unless you want to print posters. If that's the only problem stick with it. If you are determined to change look around at Panasonic first (great lenses). Avoid Sony (expensive MemoryStick) and Olympus if they're xD card.

£100 should get you something decent with a 4x or even 5x optical zoom if you look around. If you're prepared to go nearer £200 you could get something like the Panasonic TZ6 which is perhaps the best compact camera out there at the moment (10x zoom but just a little bigger than the smallest compacts).
