I've been looking to pick up a new camera like this at the budget end. Even with no image stabilisation it seems a good buy and reviews are reasonable. Anyone have opinions on this model and if there's anything close to it in price worth going for?

Fantastic price. I paid £190 for the Z740 a year ago and the pictures are on the whole superb although about 5-10% do come out with some pixellation so I just trash them.

88 left, 6 sold in the last hour. Might get one after reading a few reviews mainly based around a price of £170. Will see how well Ebuyer are selling them. Good spot and a fair price :)

This or the Fuji on amazon for £115? I actually bought the Fuji few months ago very happy with it. Why's this almost half the price of my Fuji though which has 5MP? :(
#5
great price...but is the lack of image stabilisation a big issue?

Unless you specifically want to print out photos large scale, I personally ignore megapixel specifications. It's all about the quality of the CCD and the lens.

I have shaky hands and do lots of indoor/party shots so image stabilisation would be useful to me but at this price can't complain at all.

Voted hot, looks a cracking deal with 10X Optical.

Don't be tempted to buy the case they're offering. Go for the leather one from kodak online shop, which is silk lined and perfect for the Z series. £10 delivered.

and under no circumstances install the kodak easyshare software. its unintuitive and crashes a lot. Stick with picasa2

Are there any discount codes for euyer?

However, why would you buy a bulky camera like this if you werent going to make maximum use of the zoom? If you dont need the zoom get something more compact. Voted hot, because even without image stabilisation its a good deal, but I wont be buying it, as you are effectively getting a camera with features that cant be used to their full advantage.

I think what csiman was trying to say is that you gotta use the tripod if you're using the maximum zoom.

I'd say it was a big issue with a zoom this much. I'd hate to be using a camera with a high zoom and have a little niggle in the back of my mind as to whether the pic would come out if I zoomed in a little closer. If you buy a camera for the optical zoom function you want to use it to the max. That's what it's for.

Also need to take in to account the light level, low light needs more stabilising so the
Only when holding by hand on above 6/7x zoom
won't work too well.

I have a Canon S2 IS 12x Optical Zoom (IS being Image Stabilisation) and yesterday, during a visit to Wicksteed Park my wife was able to shoot the kids up front in the race cars whilst we were trying to keep up and she figured the pics would be rubbish due to the vibration but they they came out rock solid and she was holding the camera by hand and I was having my teeth rattled out.

Typical marketing ploy a bit like the megapixel count and digital zoom to attract buyers.

Probably a good camera for using on a tripod with that kind of zoom but those moments when you need a close up at short notice then IS is a necessity.
#16
You can get around the image stabilisation by setting a fast shutter speed, will work fine outdoors at max zoom even if you are shaking.
banned#17
bit of a difference in price between the Canon S2 and this, use a higher shutter speed or a tripod
#18
thanks for the input guys, i've placed my order. looks like more than 20 units have been sold since i first saw this on hotukdeals!
#19
Yes but surely the higher shutter speed won't work too good on cloudy days?:?

It is a very good price for what you get though so enjoy

Min focus 60cm

does this camera not have a macro mode? Would make it a bit useless for ebay photos.

with a very fast shutter speed......

outdoors it will work fine unless its dark/dusk/dawn

indoors, with flash, or at night with flash, it should work fine

the question is can you manually pick shutter speed or is it all automatic.

Guess it was a mis price. Wonder if the orders will be fulfilled...........
#33
I expect most people will receive the usual misprice email and refund as Ebuyer are getting a bit of a reputation for doing this recently. I hope I'm wrong.
