They all work relatively well in brilliant sunlight, but the problem EVERY cheap one I have looked at is performance in LOW light is poor.... as in indoor use, at parties, family events, filming kids, pets etc. precisely the situations I, and many others would want to use it in. The last of the cheap analogue (tape) cameras didn't seem to suffer nearly so badly.

Is this going to be any better than useless in that situation?

seems to answer my question, NO! :-(

I've got one, was £125 when I bought it from Amazon. How long is their money back difference period?

Great camera in daytime as stated, videos look fantastic, especially plugged in direct to your HD TV via HDMI with the supplied cable.

They are for capturing moments and for popping in your pocket. If you want to shoot footage in low light then buy a full camcorder with built in flash/light etc.

9/10 from me

Just upgraded my firmware to 1.6 also which has only just been added to the Kodak website. Says it improves audio and picture quality, especially in low light

Very handy! :whistling:

But that's not what I want, and surely I am far from being alone - it seems that's almost ALL people use video cameras for! So something small, for those casual situations, 2009 and it doesn't seem to exist! I don't have any need to take video footage of streets or landscapes, I am not a documentary maker (nor do I have any need to watch other people's, it's like watching holiday slides from the 1960's!), I use a stills camera for that!

I had no problems with a Video 8 and a VHS C camera, (after the very first generation ones which were poor) but come indoors with one of these SD card cameras, and it needs all the lights on, and extra local lighting too - really great to casually "capture the moment" NOT! I remember (and had) the first generations of handheld video cameras where the glare from the lighting stopped people dead in their tracks and they ducked for cover! :-(

A friend of mine has bought a rather dearer HD SD card camera, and it has same the problem, he used it at his Brother's wedding and wasn't happy when the footage was 98% useless. It made me realise how lucky I was, as I had been tempted to buy one until I saw that!

It is like technology has suddenly gone BACKWARDS - So, these are the ideal cameras to bore the neighbours with, as it is only useful for those daytime scenic panoramas :-(

Dude, its the same size as an iphone. Tech hasn't gone backwards, its a camcorder with as much as possible packed into its tiny frame. Its actually quite good indoors in a well lit room - think wedding - reception and speeches would be fine, DJ and dancing would be rubbish. I can't/won't carry a proper camcorder around with me, so this is perfect for shoving in a coat pocket and whipping out to capture the kids when needed. If that is what you want it for, its perfect.

Pretty certain they've scrapped the money back policy.

The 1.6 firmware also sorts out the zoom, which is incredibly jerky out of the box.
