Kodak ZX1 HD Camcorder - £47.94 @ Amazon

Decent little camcorder. Shoots in four modes, VGA, Still (3mp), 720HD (30fps) and 720HD (60fps). Runs on AA batteries but includes rechargables and a charger, case and strap. Mine arrived yesterday and I'm very pleased with it. There's better out there but not for this money - unless of course you know different!! Supposed to be weatherproof too. Amazon currently giving a free case as well worth £9. Available in four or five colours - some are 5p more than the yellow I chose though. Small internal memory but accepts SDHC card - class 6 needed. Got one from another thread here for £11.99. HDMI out and cable included. Remote control compatible. Some good reviews on Amazon and around the web. First post - you guys have made me spend loads on this site so now it's my turn - maybe!!! Can't add a pic yet. Will try later???

Hi,
Thanks for posting. I have added an image to your post.
This is a link, made by rayman, which explains how to add images in great detail. It’s worth taking a look at if you are going to post more deals in future : - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/339941/how-to-post-and-host-images-for-thr/
Or follow the link in my signature.
Kind regards

These are only any good for Still shooting IMO Any time the camera moves you get horrible wobbles on the recording.
#7
These are good - can record non-stop for more than 2 hours with a decent pair of rechargeable AA batteries. It's a shame you can't turn the screen off, as that would make it last even longer!

I bought this last week (in pink - for wifey) - tested it out and the video quality is good enough. We're taking it on holiday with us to film our daughters - far easier and convenient taking this with us than he bulky camera we have been using.

It's the same size as a mobile phone for those wondering.

Great product at a great price.

Seems like a good price for a water resistant HD video recorder. The only issue most people will have the shakeyness (which can be resolved with software - iMovie does stabilisation and I'm sure there are lots of applications that can also do it) of it as it doesn't have built in image stabilisation. Other than that, can't argue with the price.

i bought this last time round and the picture quality is brilliant, its best for shots in light rooms or outside, not good in darkish rooms, i had a stand off a laser level that fits and its brilliant for filming the kids now but my advice would be get a tripod, for the price im more than made up

Looks ok for price, may have to get this one..um....hot from me..thanks.......Well thanks to this site iv gone and ordered it.....case will be posted later , free, as they have sold out.....so hopefully it will be good for the price, many thanks to op.....cheers..( got the black by the way)
#13
how water resistant is it?
#14
Says shower proof in the instructions. Also sandproof in some reviews? There is a pdf user manual on the Kodak site and a firmware upgrade too for anyone who needs it.

Just purchased one, seems like a good deal for a cheap camcorder. Thanks!

Here's a useful review for it, showing some videos recorded with it:
http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=3994&review=kodak+zx1

Anyone know how big SD card i'll need? I would imagine filming in 720p would take up a lot of space!?

Hot! I purchased Sony Bloggie MHS-CM5 Full HD (1080p 60fps) Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom yesterday and also takes 5MP stills, have it some test (still at 5 mp & video at 72p 30fps) and works awesome. But at this price Koda ZX1 is a hot deal :)

good price still tempted with the sanyo xacti ??? what are peoples thoughts??

Definitely the Sanyo! I know it's more expensive but it's a better all-round video camera. This is good and all, but the Sanyo is ridiculously cheap for what it does compared to this.

Definitely the better choice, but not £70 as you said.. it's £100 give or take a few pence http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/9037954/Sanyo-Xacti-VPC-CG10-HD-Camcorder-Digital-Camera/Product.html

I have one of these and they are great. My Advice would be to get some eneloop batteries, as with normal batteries or even traditional rechargable batteries, this can drain them very easily. The eneloop however seem to last for ages!

Read that camera shake is really poor on this? Whats low light conditions like?

Thanks

Thanks for publishing this offer. After reading some reviews and checking some video samples, I have ordered the black version :)

Now I need a SD Card. Could somebody kindly point me to any decent offers on cards (looking at 16GB if price is right).

I love this board. Thanks to everyone who contributes.

It's approximately 20 minutes/1GB of space at the highest quality of recording. There was a good deal at Amazon for the Bytestore 16GB card, but that is out of stock now. So buying a few 8GB cards is probably better value at the moment - Play.com have the PNY 8GB SDHC card for £8.99 delivered.

I bought one of these a few weeks back when they went halfprice to £49.99, and for the money they are very very good.

OK so they aren't top top quality, and can suffer in bad light conditions, but generally they are a bargain for the price. Add in the fact that you get a charger and 2 rechargeable batteries and carrying bag makes it a real deal.

Oh, and lack of image stabilisation is not great either, but just keep your hand as steady as you can.
#26
I ordered an 8gb card from mymemory yesterday. Posted on here at 11.99 delivered. Class 6 which it has to be to write the data fast enough. Search mymemory on this site to find the deal and the code.

Ordered one for the wife / kids to play with as we could use more family footage in general, I see its limitations but for the price what the hey. Now I'm looking for a big boys toy version, thinking about a new DSLR body... Canon 7D/ 5D

Looking over reviews, and comments on here, Am i right in taking it then that on a 4 gb sd card you get about 80min of recording ?, in the 720, mode.....but at which frame size ?,,the 30 or the 60 fps ?.......And is there much difference ?.....As only want to rec outside in good light....etc....Also what is the batt time roughly in these 2 modes ?..............One last thing, ( thanks in advance ) but the pc we use as a fault when trying to put sd cards in ?...the sony mem pro slot is fine through .......Anyway do you think that if i brought a card reader for the sd card i could then be able to upload my recordings to the pc ??.....cheers mart.
#29
Most of the reviews for this mention a high-pitched whine in the background (caused by the LCD being on, apparently) does anyone know if there is a firmware update that fixes this? The Zi6 and Zi8 have had this fixed in firmware, but I can't find anything out about a ZX1 fix. I would buy this, but the whine would annoy me to death.

Please let us ditherers know if this has been fixed.

That's 80 minutes at 30 frames/second (4GB card). If you want to use an external USB card reader then that should be fine. Or you can connect the camcorder directly via USB and upload your footage to the computer that way (using Arcsoft Mediaimpression which is supplied with the camcorder).

Someday, somehow, someone will answer my request.

I'm really holding out for an HD camcorder at less than £100, the Sanyo and Toshiba's seem to get very mixed reviews...
#35
Just ordered one, thanks for posting! :-D

I used the aforementioned firmware update on the kodak website to go to v1.6 quite easy to do and has stopped the hgh pitched whine. If the majority of filming will take place outside with no need for zooming then this is a must, have been playing back on projector in 720p and its great.

hope this helps :-D
