Kogan has announced the 7in Agora Android tablet, which is now available for the amazingly low price of £89.06. There are a few cheap android 7" tablets floating about. Usually they have resistive screens, low memory and a poor processor. This seems to tick all the boxes that it could be expected to tick for £89+postage
#7
Brilliant, thanks so much! ill look forward to its release!
#8
Ordered. £89+£7.
#9
Good find
#10
Bargain. The price is around a 1/4 what it was 12 months ago. The fall off in prices of the generic tablet will abate soon and I believe this deal heralds a new low price.

7-inch cheap tablet was too good to be true

Maverick Australian etailer Kogan has come under fire for altering the specifications of the firm's new Agora 7" budget tablet after it went on sale.

Kogan announced the "world's best value tablet" with the Agora 7-inch Android tablet offering surprising specifications for just £90 or $149 depending on the US or Australia Kogan portal.

The Wi-Fi only Android 2.2-powered tablet was listed as a 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU, 4GB of storage, HDMI port, Bluetooth and a 1024 x 600 capacitive touch screen which is an astonishing buy for that price.

As customers rushed to place orders the web page was updated with the device now listed as a 800 x 480 resolution screen and no Bluetooth. A number of customers immediately got in contact and cancelled their pre-orders.

Kogan lists rebadged Chinese-manufactured products well in advance of their actual shipping date with a curious pricing scheme called Live Price that ticks upwards as the release date approaches. At time of writing the tablet was still listed at £89 in the UK with the Australian price jumping to $155 and down to $147 in a matter of minutes.

They have a UK operation. There will be no further charges and the resolution is fine for a 7inch screen, especially one at £89. Everyone entitled to their own opinion though.

ahhhh just wondering as kogan seems to be an austrailan company..didnt see where it said it is posted from uk..good price though

The link above has a resistive touch screen. This deal is for capacitive.
No competition there :)

For £89 this is very hot. Would ideally like to see someone reviewing it first though... bit strange that there seems to be no reviews of it at all. A lot of manufacturers release preproduction models to reviewers but having said that, it's not totally unusual not to have a preproduction model available for review.
Anyone at all seen a review of this... a 'hands on' review not a 'I think this, I think that' review.
#23
I love the design. Would love to see a professional review before buying.
#24
I would love a review as well, but price will be £30 extra for waiting. Better to buy it and send back if its not good enough imo.

Is this better than the Ipad 2?

Yes, of course it is, hands down leaves it in a cloud of dust!!!

Oh, hang on, got my wires crossed there - of course its not better than the iPad 2 - Apple haters will of course say it is but for less than £100 its not a bad toy for what you get.
#27
any info on how to flash a custom rom on this

Even considering my post above, I still think this'll go RED HOT! I mean I'd really love the Motorola Xoom. Having a tab with Honeycomb is my goal for a tablet but at nearly 500 quid for the Xoom it ain't gonna be happening for me any time soon.

Considering the spec of this device and the fact that this is already Froyo, and the likelihood that Paul (Modaco), and all the other developers will get their hands on this, they could well get Honeycomb on it fairly soon. This thing is sounding more and more tempting by the minute!

The only thing putting me off is the lack of a review. I purchased the Advent Vega even though I had read that the screen viewing angles were terrible... I thought it would be ok... it wasn't! They really are bad, too bad for me to keep the device. So it's that 'viewing angle' issue that's playing on my mind with this.

EDIT: FFS... Can we PLEASE leave it with the whole effing iPad thing!

The invoice includes VAT.

That doesn't really make much difference. If it's being posted from Oz, then you can indeed expect to pay import charges plus the Royal Mail handling fee.
#32
Can you download apps from iTunes on it?

Will it sync with iTunes?

Nahhhhhh, just wanted to get people's backs up. Hmm, android 2.2 means that it should be able to run flash 10 for movies... If the processor is capable, this is a
bargain

Apart from this idea of there being an import tax being a myth. It exists on very few products.

Its simply VAT + handling charge. VAT paid = no problem.

I see this being stated time and time again in so many different areas. Very few electronic items have an import tax!

Any idea of the battery specs? Usually on cheap devices you can expect 2 hours tops
