Went to my local Tesco Extra they had Kohinoor Easy Cook Long Grain Rice 10Kg on special price of £10.
Might be of interest, considering the price of rice at the moment.

more of the world's poor are starting to eat.

plus so much land is being switched from growing basic foodstuffs to growing biofuels for us greedy westerners.

more demand + less supply = hefty increases in all raw materials and basic foodstuffs.

It is true atleast in India:oops:

Well in a nutshell, its more of a case where, countries like China & India...Main rice producing countries are getting richer due to demand from West for Services and Raw materials, ie. call center's, steel, iron along with spices etc..well thats the fraction of a list for India.

However, China is getting richer and there are more mouths to feed (which seems to be increase as more money comes in to their economy). hence these two countries are choosing to hold stock for themselves as their agricultural background is soon fading away and the citizens of these rice producing nation do have internal demand..

On the flip side of the coin, West being the importer will pay wheverever the demand price leads it. at the moment its only way is up. Or so the hedge fund managers in the city are predicting...

Anyway, saw the kohinoor rice in stock on my trip earlier...

£10 for 10kg. Heat added!
Kohinoor isnt something I like...monopoly holder in the market is Tilda Basmati rice..
and great flavour in my opinion.

Kohinoor basmati 20KG is £30 in the asian shops - as we ll as this normal easy cook rice for £10 too.
Good quality rice normall fluffs up a fair bit when cooked the cheaper long grain easy cook you normally end up putting double in to get the same amount of rice in a pan

supply and demand - there has been lot of demand for small case letters, so this guy is doing his bit to even up the imbalance.
