Eh, the price is wrong.

Kohinoor is a good brand for Basmati rice. Tesco online shows 'Veetee Supreme Basmati rice' when I click on the Kohinoor Basmati rice !

What is "normal rice"?
#8
Basmati Rice on new years eve - surely you have something better to do ...

That would have more weight if i wasn't here reading it, wouldn't it ?

Well, normal priced rice. You can get basmati rice for less than this costs reduced.

At the end of the day it's just rice, and a real con at the prices they sell it for.

It's Basmati rice. I dont need to pay extortionate prices for Basmati rice.
#17
I bought a couple of bags, not yet cooked though!

If they are good and extra long, need to decide what to cook??
Biryani or Pulav?:)

I might try some real recipes at www.curry2night.co.uk tonight?:whistling:

Happy New Year!

I think the poster is referring to the fact that this is £1 per kilo (i.e. it's a 5 kilo bag) as opposed to your £3.99 per kilo :).

I think £1 per kilo for basmati rice is a good price so heat from me.
#19
Any Idea how long this keeps for once opened?
#20
THis is very good value and the best quality/most authentic of rice that I have ever had. Great value per kg

Tilda and Akash, everything else is third rate

Tried both Tilda and Kohinoor and Kohinoor is a much better rice and have been using Kohinoor for the last 4 years and this is the best available. Good deal. will get some today itself
#23
I can not find online ? Please help ?
#24
Tesco value basmati rice for me. Strangely enough, the rice doesn't know it is going to be in a value bag when it is growing, nor do the people who harvest it.
#25
Good deal for good quality rice in my opinion - £1/kg for basmati rice

Were you born an idiot?

How can you compare 1kg of rice for £3.99 when this is 5kg for £4.99

I take it maths wasnt your strong point lol :whistling:

No, but I understand he takes lessons.

Let him stick to Uncle Ben's 'Boil in the Bag'

This is a good deal for a quality rice.
#28
Tilda all the way. At less than a pound for a kilo, this rice is cheap but with rice you always get you pay for. Tilda all the way.

Well, fancy seeing this posted. I ordered a bag of this online via mysupermarket, and sure enough my estimated bill included it ( a good few days before this was posted). When the delivery came I asked if anything was missing to be told no. Got upstairs and no bag of £4.99 rice...even though it was clearly on my email from Tesco, though they didn't bill for it.

No excuses, no reasons...just not there (had email back of Tesco and still no reason - I am worthy of only an automated ' we value your feedback, thanks'). Cripes! Just say we were out of stock and apologise damnit!

Probably an isolated case - but the service sucked and caused me to go out shopping unwell as it was very much needed that night. Hence the whinge!!

Stick a great deal though - If ya get it. Heat added.

Kohinoor Basmati Rise is an Indian Product and its tough to even find these in India for this price.

Great Price
#33
you can buy much better rice for the money - thai fragrance rice from chinese supermarkets is about £10 for 10kg...basmati rice sold in the main supermarkets is grim
#34
Not online..... please advice?
#35
Personally think Tesco have messed up the online bit....it was there when I ordered (with no image), but never came of course.

Rice keeps very well, and Basmati rice tends to improve with age. When bought in 20kg bags you'll notice the bags are not air tight so once a bag is opened it's shelf life shouldn't be affected. I'd just check the 'best-before' date store it in a cool, dark place.

Heat added.

Basmati is graded - it cmes in a number of varities. Tell me.. which variety is in the "value" pack??

Punjab
Kernel Basmati (Pakistan)
Dehradun
Safidon
Haryana
Super basmati
Kasturi(Baran,Rajasthan)
Basmati 198
basmati 217
basmati 370
basmati 385
basmati 386
Bihar
Kasturi
Mahi Suganda
Pusa
Ranbir
Taraori.

Also.. where was it sourced ?

Foot of the himalayas?

Was it aged for a 12 months??

I'm gonna try this Gold Kohinoor look like good deal + H +R

By the way the harvesters WILL know roughly what grade and quality Basmati they're dealing with.
