You can't say 20" minimum for someone of 6ft, that's horseradish. Frame size is an arbitrary number, that only makes sense if you are comparing bikes of the same brand, it entirely depends on the geometry of the frame how this applies to you. The only way to know what size you need, is to sit on the bike in question.

I'm 31, 5'7" plenty to choose from there for me.

Do you have to be 6'4" to be an adult? Just so you know I am ok
    with that..

How's the Tanuki Deluxe rate? I just love the look of that bike but I know looks aren't everything, especially when they divorce you and take all your money.

LOL that's amazing. Tell you what Goose, I'm doing the Megavalanche this year, you come and race that and I'll be delighted to pay for your race entry. Suggest you spend what you've saved on body armour and a really, really good helmet.

im 6ft 2 and a 19 is spot on but depends on frame design. Sometimes wish id got a 18 for off road/downhill
  17. deleted18532's avatar
mmkay it's top tube length that's important, unfortunately bikes are still nominally sized by seattube which is a hangover from decades ago. even though many modern frame designs don't even have a seat tube in the old sense. so check those geometry charts geeks.
high end bikes tend to have longer top tubes, proportionally, than lower end ones.
i'm talking about mtbs. The Tanuki looks nice.

    quick points:
Fit is determined by the TT length
Ride feel is determined by the chainstay length and head angle.
there's more to it than that but it's a good start.

The man Speeketh the truth! I'm 6'4" and my last two bikes have both been 18". They are a lot more controllable on technical parts of a trail and are just as comfy as a bigger frame. As the Fonz once said "if if doubt, sit on it!"

what a fantastic attitude. most mtbers i've met don't have this attitude at all and welcome new riders.
although, this maybe isn't a good deal if you are new, better to go to your LBS, talk to them and try things, and check for deals there.

What a foolish post. 99% of MTB'ers are decent folk, comfy being in that minority group?

    IMHO, a good deal.

I never had any regrets purchasing by 2010 Caldera, albeit at £670.

If I were in the market for a new HT, I'll give this deal a serious look.

    Heat added.

This is a pretty good deal considering the normal price but bear in mind kona's are one of the heavier brands and generally you can get a better spec with other brands such as trek / specialized.

Don't feed the troll, it encourages them to stick around (bit like seagulls).

As for what bike is suitable, depends on your use. We both have 400 quid hardtails and find that they really are pushing it on the local tracks. Hence him building the new softy, proper tool for the job. My bike is mainly used for commuting nowadays so I won't be bothering, I got lazy!

  37. deleted510526's avatar
I was just about to order something from halfords on the cycle2work scheme but these offer the same thing.

Very tempted by the Cinder Cone. What size do you guys recommend for a 6 foot 90kg fatso? Been ages since I was last into MTB. I bought a new GT RTS1 about 15 years ago and then stopped riding.

Why are you tryng to confuse people with this rubbish? I am 5'10" and I ride a 17" in Kona (and most other bikes to be honest). You sound like one of those fools who always buys the largest frame size and looks foolish. I bet you convinced your mother you had size 12 shoes when really you were only a size 9 when you were a teenager too.
