These were out of stock for a while but they're back on Amazon (actually Amazon preferred merchant Indigostarfish, in Jersey). I got mine delivered quickly with no fuss, and they sound fantastic. I've been using them for a week so far.

I missed out on my previous post, the £14.99 Sennheiser PX100s, (I've had two pairs of these). After reading around I read a few recommendations for PortaPros.

The PortaPros look ok in reality, (I thought they looked a bit ugly on-screen) and have a ComfortZone Firm/Light adjustment on the headband, which is a nice touch. They fold just like the PX100s do. They feel sturdier and sound a tad better, and I thought I'd be buying PX100s forevermore! The PP's design has barely changed since 1984, hence the retro styling.

It comes complete with a carry pouch and a with a 6.3mm Gold Plated Adapter.

Koss even have a lifetime warranty; if they break and you still have the receipt, post them back and they'll replace them.

The Sennheiser PX100, Sennheiser PX200 versus Koss PortaPros: http://www.goodcans.com/HeadphoneReviews/porta.htm

Includes a comparison of Koss' PortaPros and SportaPros.

Great price for these. I bought a set for about £35 a few years ago. I originally had a set of px100's, but they broke so got these as a replacement - they sound just as good and are a lot more robust IMHO. I like the retro styling personally :)

I bought these for my 7 year old son for his MP4 player as he is just too young to have those in ear phones, and most other hair band headphone sets are just too big. These fit any sized head.

They are stunning and I use them instead of my Shure's when I want extreme comfort. Really these are a steal at this price.
#5
Looks weird but good price. voted hot. Thanks
#6
could you really see yourself wearing these on the tube?
#7
gives that retro look though

i actually saw someone with these on the tube the other day, i was wondering what make they were, and now i know!

These Portapros are fantastic, They are the best value headphones you can get, they are also very sensitive so will go loud without distorting. I've had 3 or 4 pairs over the years some have been lost others have been damaged (they are not indestructible but a lot stronger than they look) but you just send them back & get a brand new pair back (I didn't need the receipt).

I think they look really cool.

I always shop around & the best price I've found before was £23 & I thought that was a Bargain.
#10
I have the SportaPro's which are essentially the same except they fold to store - they are superb and I'd recommend them to everyone. Great price.

Oh and they have a lifetime warranty the UK agents are Hama.
#11
I have some Grado SR60s, which are too bulky to use on the move, so after looking at some reviews, I've ordered a set of these for my trips away. Voted hot.
#12
Voted hot and ordered! been after some new headphones for a while now. Thanks!
#13
I have the porta pros and the sennheiser px100, they are now very similarly priced but for me the PX100 are better option - the sould quality of both is very good but IMO the PX100's are more confortable, are better made and look much better, I also prefer the way the PX100's fold (the porta pros are supplied with a storage bag which tapers towards the neck, getting the headphones into the bag is a pain, so much so that I never use it.
#14
Had these for over a year now,got some funny looks whilst wearing them,in between times i have tried sennheisers, jvc, sony et al,but i always come back to these,so much comfier than in ear ones, sure you get leakage, but who cares,at this price i urge you to get if you already have'nt...........hot hot hot
#15
Wow that is a bargain. These are superb!

Their looks are an acquired taste though and the PX100s were cheaper when I wanted some :-P
#16
I bought this in Europe couple years ago. Sound quality in this price range imo the best.
#17
Had a pair of these over a year ago and paid the same price on Amazon. They sound fantastic and do not require a decent amp for them to sound good from portables or your PC for that matter. Too bad the internal wiring came loose on mine after a couple months of usage and lugging them around so they're pretty much gone. Now rocking with the Grados sr80's which I've had for about a year so it pays for a more robust design with quality wiring - not voting but hot if you give them some TLC.

This is one of the great things about the internet..no longer do you take a chance buying electrical goods. I shudder to think of the amount of cr*ppy headphones I've wasted money on over the years, and that's back from my old Walkman days in the early '80s.

The internet brought me to the Sennheiser PX100s, and now the Koss PortaPros (how on earth did I miss out on them over 20+ years of headphones buying and binning?)!

I can't stress how comfortable they are. I like to walk for miles with music in my ears and they are an absolute pleasure to listen to. The PX100s are a close call, I'm very fond of them too.

I wondered if their "interesting" looks would make me feel a little self-conscious, but actually, they're quite funky, and not as urgh as you might think.

I've heard really awful cheap Koss headphones in my time so I'm pleasantly surprised by how impressive they are :)

I tried the PX100, not shabby, but clearly sonically no where near the Porta Pro's.
These things have bass to burn, simply unbelievable.
I've got some futuresonics in ear customs, but when I want more comfort indoors, these babies are what I reach for.

They are bulkier than the PX100, but I think the quality is worth it.
But then, I'm not a young person trying to impress people so don't care what I look like. Horses for courses I guess.

Shuddering thinking about shipping costs to the US and it doesn't shake the fact that it still uses an el cheapo thin cable that is prone to damage after some time when travelling. As with my previous portable headphones..

Hmm, that's a bit cheeky, the price has went up by nearly £5 in the last half-an-hour! Sorry, all.

Amazon's prices do tend to fluctuate, just like play.com's.:-( I'd keep an eye on the price if I was you.

Bah, bad timing, was looking for some new headphones and those would have done me fine, ordered some Koss KSC75s instead, they're also supposed to be very good though, £13.99 including delivery (free postage), not sure whether to post them up a a deal though, the site I got them from had some mixed reviews.

back up to 22.99 now - snooze and you lose

clearly sonically there isnt much difference, this is my expeirence and that of most of the reviews that I have read, they both sound great to me :) as they are both a very similar price the PX100 tick more boxes - they are much better made, the portapros feel cheaply made in comparison, the headband adjustment and comfort control are fiddley to - think the porta pro are a better option if you want headphones to wear while doing exersize as they are likely to stay in place better - I am not a young person trying to impress either (wish I was :) ) but prefer the classy looks of the PX100 - heat added anyway as its a good price

£22.29 actually but what's 70p between friends :) If I see a price go up on Amazon, I bookmark it til it tumbles again.

I agree the PX100s look nicer but there's really not much between the two sonically or comfort-wise.
The aesthetics put me off the PortaPros at first, but they're growing on me.. They're not as "big" on the ears as they might seem from the pictures.

Shuddering thinking about shipping costs to the US...

Um, a small package like this would cost less than a fiver :?
#31
These are comparable to the px100 if not better. The px100 does have slightly better sound staging. Do note this pair of cans are more for bass heads. If you're looking for clarity/detail in the mids, then you'll be slightly put off though.

This isn't really comparable to the SR60. This can run better unamped compared to the SR60. SR60 needs a bit more juice to reach it's full potential.

Voting hot :)

ps: for those wanting something with lesser bass and more clarity, try the KOSS KSC 75 :)

edit: I own all four of the headphones mentioned, and would strongly recommend the KSC 75, followed by the PortaPro/PX 100. Note that the PortaPro can be quite difficult to fold and stay folded. But it's definitely more hardy than the PX100. PX100 has the upper hand when it comes to portablity though. The PortaPro is slightly bulkier. Comfort zone (as mentioned in the prev post) helps when you want to wear them for extended periods.

These fold too. i'm not too sure they are the same grade of headphone though. Al I can say again is that at £17.99 nobody will be sorry with this purchase. Many kid themselves that in ear is the way to go (myself included), but these are just sheer comfort and a great quality sound

They are exactly the same units. I checked on the Koss website when I bought them and it was confirmed by one of their engineers.

These headphones and their sound quality for the price are superb. I've had a pair for over 10 years now and have had them repaired twice under Koss's lifetime warrranty. If any foam pads wear out, they will send you some for free. Their customer service, in my experience, is superb.

Strongly recommended!!!

IS it just me or is it normal to buy a seven year old these for his MP4 player?

Sorry LYRRAD, don't mean to single you out but I feel the world's meanest mum as I thought it was a treat to buy my boys MP3's then spoil my 14 yr old with a surprise IPOD at xmas. Just the basic, no video, but he was thrilled.

If your boy has this at 7, then what's he having at 14? (I know I'm on dodgy ground here and I will mind my own business, promise)

(no wonder my boys keep asking for SKY, I'm so behind with this material world)

The middle girl (9yo) of a neighbour was looking very irritated last half term because she had only £60 to spend on DS games.... :whistling:

No problem. I got a brand new freebie Sony 4gb NW player ( actually a swap with a mate for a phone Motorola V3 I received for nothing) and have just loaded up Spongebob movies for plane journeys. As it was free I bought these headphones together with a hard plastic protective case. That's it. He never asked for it nor wanted it. He uses the item 6 or 7 times a year, and it allows me to listen to my mp3 player in peace on those flights too. I agree, Ipods, Ds Lites, Wii's are all a step in the wrong direction IMHO. I believe when kids get older they want items that their mates have got. It's that kind of peer pressure nonsense I will not entertain, and will steer my child away from it. So you are certainly not the world's meanest mum in my book. However I would never allow him to have an IPOD as that kind of branded item falls exactly under the peer pressure nonsense I refer to. There is so much better out there for less money, but the 'must have item' is the IPOD

They would be ideal for car and home. Only slight issue with them is that they do leak sound (as do most open headphones) so not fantastic on a plane, although i did use them on a flight to Australia :p

Buy them from anywhere and you will get the Koss lifetime warranty and it is Koss (Hama) who will repair/provide/replace parts, if necessary, outside the retailer's usual replacement period.
