My indian mates are all fat, fat cos they eat ghee. The problem is they are supposed only to eat veg, not even carbs, thats why Indians eat ghee, otherwise you cant survive on veg unless you eat a truck load. Now, enter Ghee + Meat + Rice + Chapatis.... and you have a problem.

Only strict hindus are vegetarian. The strictest are vegan so wouldnt even touch this stuff.
i think the clarification of butter to ghee makes it less likely to go rancid. Plus in India there are plenty of wondering cows to milk!

The issue with obesity in the southern indian population is not fat intake really.. Its more the westernised diet of high carb purified sugars. Southern asian genetics make their metaoblism poor at handling these and they tend to convert most to fat.
