Great price....I will buy a few and crack them open the next time the Baggies win !

Mind you, the time I will have to wait I might have to pour it on me chips !!

Voted HOTTTT!!!
#6
That's insane!! Duty alone is £1.57 per 75cl, they must be losing money hand over foot on this, sounds like a mis-price to me...
#7
anyone else managed to bag any?

good price - kumala is not a bad drop if you want an average bottle of wine on an evening
#8
nationwide?
#9
Monster deal, as long it doesn't taste like rats p***
Would be interested to hear how the sampling goes later

HOT!
#10
checking Aberdeen tonight
#11
does it include red wine, don't really drink White
#12
Trouble is I drink it like pop and before you know it you have had 4 bottles, talking carp, laughing and wetting yourself !!
#13
Some wine snob once told me that the bottle, packaging and transport on a bottle of wine costs £2-£3. So when you think about the actual cost of the wine, some of it is very cheap indeed. Not that cheap is necessarily bad of course...
#14
i only saw the white, didn't see any red
#15
not too keen on wine but a good way to kick off a binge drinking session at this price :-D
#16
My girlfriend loves the odd bottle of white so I've given her the heads up.

Thanks.

That can't be right, how come you can buy 3 litre of 8% no name cider for £1.99 in bargain booze??

Did it appear to be a nationwide deal or just that store? Big signs, shelf price reduction or what?

That is because different alcolol attracts different tax rates, according to the category and strength.
Examples from the Wine and Spirit Trade Association website shown below:

Cider (33cl) £0.10
Beer (33cl @4%) £0.21
Wine (75cl) £1.57
Sparkling Wine of 8.5% or more (75cl) £2.02
"Intermediate Products" (75cl) £2.10
Spirits and Spirit based RTD's (2) (27.5cl @5.5%) £0.34
Liqueurs and Spirits (70cl @38.77% volume) £6.03

Therefore 1 bottle of wine = £1.57p duty,
3 litres Cider= 90p duty

If you want more units for your money....always go for cider!!!!!
#23
wow this works out cheaper than white lightning
#24

As I suspected, a lot of the Sainsburys deals are store specific.

Well done to the OP though.

The bird is at the Wallington branch and she can't find any of it, only Kumala she can see it Sauvignon Blanc @ £5.65.
#27
hot, i bet none of them left in my local sainsburys... :(
#28

#29
couldn't see any in York
#30

#31
I couldn't find any either. Good deal though for those that benefit
#32
I'm undecided on what gets more stick.
Very cheap bikes or very cheap wine!?
I've bought both in the past because that's all I could afford and I was happy with what I got for the money.
But I can see both sides of the argument and thats why I always look forward to these hilarious arguments every few months...
:-D
#33
Have they got rose wine??????
#34
Great! I can stop drinking mouthwash.
#35
Mrs Scoff went in the Northfield branch (same as the OP)....
This was at 4.40pm and they have none left. It was available as she seen the pice ticket but none in stock anymore she was told.
#36
my mum picked up the last bottle in the shop, it was still marked up at full price and she only noticed the wine when a member of staff was taking all the bottles of the shelf to buy..lol
