Children don't need electronic tablets, they need books and good teachers and qualified ones at that.

Don't disagree, but also need a balanced life and emerging technology is a part of that. It's not all about games, there are educational apps too!

Well i'm almost 6ft tall, my 7" Playbook is a tablet so on that basis this Kurio is surely a tablet to anyone under ~ 3ft 6".

Good price for kiddy tab. Heat added.

For anyone looking for something a bit bigger, with higher res screen, I got this from same seller for £10 more for my daughter. It's great.

Also worth looking at Screentime app. Cost me £20ish for a year, but it controls what your kids can get access to on tab and allows you to set time limits, etc. It's been very good at saving arguments. Tablet refuses to work after preset time limit. You can even control kiddies tablet from your phone and stop it working at dinner/bed time. I know I sound like a sales rep, but at £20isher year it is well worth the money to save arguments with my 3 kids and make sure they are not overusing their tabs.

failing to see how this is a tablet or a deal? 4 inch screen? buy Huawei y300 and a case and you have this right but with better resolution?

Heard on BBC radio an interview re tables and the basic recommendation was keep the cost of the device around £95 or above for many reasons; quality, software, and updates for the platform.
However £35 is OK for a ' in car ' entertainer or on flight so if lost no parent tears lost.

So basically what you are saying is that they are the same despite the IPS screen on the Huawei y300? Am I following correctly?

This isn't a tablet. It's a phone size. I couldn't see the Argos description mentioning tablet. I think you need to update the description as it is quite misleading. Toys R Us list it a s a personal media player which is more like it. See link here.

Description from Toys R Us for those who don't want to click on the link

The Personal Android Media Player, preloaded with fun and educational applications; including Angry Birds Space, Disney, Fotodanz and Toon Goggles. It comes with KurioGenius parental control to apply customisable 24/7 safe internet filtering and define time and application management. An intuitive multi-touch 4” screen, built-in WI-FI, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and micro SD card slot. Plus full multimedia capabilities to view and take photos, listen to music and watch videos.

I saw this a while ago in Argo and I actually think it's a great idea, how many times a day do younger kids say 'Can I play on your phone?" I know a few people that treat their iphones as their first born so for those people I would imagine it's good. My kids have Innotabs and real tablets and yet STILL ask to play on my phone :| Bizarre.

The Kurio website does not list it as a personal media player, I think you should ammend your comment as it is quite misleading (_;)

What I think is you shouldn't really care that much to go hunting down descriptions. Sad

the kurio 7 is better for kids, this will just be the size of an iphone, not big for playing games

Could not agree more ... I love books and use them as much as possible, but that is due to books being my childhood way of reading, getting information... Nowadays it's totally different and children need to be up to speed with it. More and more schools are adopting tablets for interactive and innovative teaching.

This does have a some better specs over the Huawai: double the RAM and a larger battery, which will make a difference, although whether it outweighs the better screen and camera of the Huawai is up to the individual.

Great to give the kids so parents can ignore them then watch TV or play with their own phones.

This generation are like zombies with faces planted in tablets, phones and consoles. Look at people in the street or on the bus. Look at people on trains. Nobody is talking. We're all texting tweeting, nothing face to face.

Technology is great, and useful. But what's wrong with interacting with kids rather than giving them a tablet for some peace and quiet.

Can see a point where humans evolve and mouths disappear as we won't be using them.

No doubt someone said that about books once.....

Ordered, came next day first class delivery, you need to update it a couple of times to get google play store, but for a 1GB ram, dual core 4" android 4.2 device, I think its excellent value

Description is wrong; it isn't a Cortex A20, it's an Allwinner A20 which uses a dual core Cortex A7.

What a load of tosh. Why would you not want children to embrace their future instead of hindering them with your outdated ideologies?
#32
for that really small screen I'd rather give them a mobile

Not a good sign when the manufacturer's own website is wrong (there is no such thing as the Cortex A20, they're likely confusing the fact that there is a Cortex A15 and Allwinner SOCs (which often encompass Cortex chips) have similar names.

Your kids will disown you if you give them this....

And people who comment on forums need to realise the difference between things that are mutually exclusive and things that aren't

No, I reckon some people will be using theirs quite frequently for a looooong time to come.
