My car is due for yearly MOT, Kwik Fit that did the MOT the preceding year sent me a reminder email and quoted MOT fee of £30.
Booked online and discovered that air con recharges cost only £25 instead of £29 if book together. My local garage quoted me £45 (MOT) and £60 (air con recharge).

I know Kwik Fit is not very popular here in HotUKdeals, but for such low price, it's worth it.

Please don't turn this into a KF 'bashing' thread. There are bad apples in every trades, I know I can trust my local KF.

You cant get Thicker than a Kwik Fit Fitter.

wouldnt touch them with a bargepole at any price-their staff havent a single clue about what they are doing, and while doing one of these bargain deals will no doubt discover all sorts of work needing doing.nobody should ever take their car anywhere near kwik fit at ANY price.
#3
no doubt they will add extras on what needs fixing on your car that a normal garage would just pass.

I had my c.insurance with them-i got a free MOT as part of it-thats how i know :)

Why are you guys have to be so 'negative'.
I think consumers nowadays know how to shop around. KW dont put a gun to yr head and demand you to get the works done there. I know my car and if the MOT discovers some faults, I will just get it done at my local garage. That's my choice. To simply put out a blanket statement that all KW is 'evil' or 'thick' is just not so fair.

ps i rest my case.

Kwik Con more like! I took my car for an MOT there and they wanted £319 to get the car through, inc 3 new tyres. Wasnt happy so booked it in at a local garage and it passed first time with only a couple of advisories. Others I know have had similar experiences - sterr clear.. you have been warned! :-)

They spot things on the MOT that arent at fault, you take them to the local garage and they say it is okay for the MOT. Not saying folk are stupid, just offering my opinion... and thats negative mate!

and do you know how many people they tell "your car is dangerous, legally I cannot allow you to take it away"? its another of their "tactics"-you cant take it away and get it done at your local garage then can you? I dont even believe the majority of their staff are even knowledgeable about cars in any way.And making a blanket statement about them is perfectly fair,as many surveys/investigations have exposed them as crooks.

Don't use Kwik Fit.

End of story.
#11
Kwik Fit more like SH*T FIT !
Thats my opinion purely based on the level of "service" I ve had from them in the past.
#12
Cold, they are rip off merchants

didn't know they hav the power to detain anyone's car!!

anyway, I dun use KW apart fr the cheap MOT. Like I said, I'd normally bring it elsewhere to get the work done and my local KF knows it. The fact that KF has been on watchdog actually reassures me, KF even has issued a long statement on its website.
I have booked and paid for my MOT and air con recharge next week and I can't cancel now but I will 'report back'.

The "faults" that Kwik Fit find go on the cars record like a ccj..........i would never use Kwik Fit.

Only really had one experience with Kwik Fit. Took my car there for a 'free' brake inspection, they quoted me £400+ as I needed new pads/discs. The Kwik-Fitter wasn't very happy when I said I couldn't afford it and he needs to put the brakes back together & wheels back on my car.

I took my car to the local (very reputable) garage and it passed MOT fine with the discs just needing to be cleaned. Not only that but it also passed the following 2 years MOT without any work needing done to the brakes.

I don't trust them after that.
#16
Took my car to Kwick fit for service and MOT needed two new tyres (I knew that) and it needed new discs and pads all round £300+ and was ready to pick up, I asked if it needed the pads adn discs to pass MOT they said no, i said in that case dont do it suddenly my car was not ready for two hours !

DONT TOUCH WITH BARGEPOLE. GOT REC CON CHARGE IT LASTED A WEEK WENT TO COMPLAIN THEY WANTED £25 TO CHECK IT, TOLD THEM GO TO ****. PHONED HEAD OFFICE GOT A FULL REFUND. LOCAL GARAGE DID IT AND IT,S STILL GOIN.
THINK THEY GET TRAINED AT MY KIDS NURSERY
#18
Why the hell do you need a WINTER aircon recharge ???? unless you plan on driving to Africa of course ???
#19
Don't take a nice car in there, the kids working there love to take them for a spin...my car had +17 miles on the odometer after it had been taken for a "test drive" after getting a new tyre fitted two years ago (puncture was not repairable)
#20
A long time ago they had Ladies only nights at one of their Edinburgh shops,it was cancelled after a few months as loads of irate partners and husbands showed up complaining that the work done hadnt been needed. SH*T FIT.

Allegedly of course oO

Have to agree with the others Kwik Fit are cr*p. Would not trust them to service or MOT a pedal car. If your £30 MOT turns into £300 for the new discs and pads or exhaust etc etc etc that they always tell you are required then it's hardly a bargain is it?
#22
sorry guys pressed hot instead of cold cant really understand people going there any more makes you wonder lol

You do realise Air Con stands for air conditioner, not air cooler. An air con unit should be used to make the car cool in summer and warm in winter, ie it conditions the air to make it comfortable what ever time of year it is!!!!!!!!

avoid the dartford branch ... gotta be the worse, quoted £400 for shocks and brakes for mot AFTER it passed, had all checked and NOTHING wrong, shocks aprayed with oil!!!! and told were leaking!!!

If they get trained by my kids nursery, I think OFSTED would shut them down.

I used thickfit in april for mot and service, cost me just short of £480 to get the car through and a week later my clutch packed in which cost me another £215 at another garage.

Why didn't thickfit notice the clutch was on it's last legs, surely they would look at something like that during a service?

Avoid these idiots and take your car somewhere where the people there know what they are doing..

What the hell?

You're confusing air con with climate control. If you buy a car that only has air con, then that system only makes the air cooler. That's why you fill an air con system with REFRIGERANT, same thing that goes in a fridge. Can your fridge make stuff warm too?

Uhm no, air con allows you to set the air to blow either cold or warm, whereas climate control lets you set a desired temperature and then the air con tries to keep the car at that temperature using hot or cold air.

Air conditioning and climate control FAQs
What’s the difference between air conditioning and climate control?

Climate control lets you choose the temperature
While air conditioning continues to cool (or warm) the inside of a car until the driver alters the settings, climate control acts more like a thermostat, making automatic adjustments to fan speed and temperature to ensure the car’s ‘climate’ remains constant.
#29
Air conditioning also removes excess moisture from the air, meaning that in the winter you can clear fogged windows quicker...back on topic, just took my car to my local garage after kf said i was on the legal limit in my mot, local said that there was easily 8000 miles left in them...

Mate. linking to rubbish articles won't make you right. I've taken air con systems apart, they have a radiator (for cooling), refrigerant and NO part of the air con system in a basic set up warms the air. There is no heating element.

Tell me which bit of the aircon system warms the air, is it the compressor? Is it the condensor? Is it the pump? Is it the radiator? (Don't be tempted with that last one, I know you have radiators in your house and you might get confused, but on your car they're not for warming!)

Go and familiarised yourself with how air con actually works here http://autorepair.about.com/od/glossary/a/howitworks_ac_2.htm rather than what some dufus company says about it.

The only way an air con system can heat is to run in reverse, then it is referred to as a "heat pump" and, like I said, basic car systems do not run in this way. Some of the new fangled cars may, but it would be ridiculous to implement a second heating system, when the conventional heating method of heat transfer from the engine works in such an effective way.

Apology accepted.
