Great film, but would be interested to know if it actually looks any better on bluray than DVD given its age.

?? Blu-ray quality isn't as good as the 35mm original film. The only reason a blu would look poor would be a bad (possibly on prurpose) transfer not it's age (or that the source wasn't well made). Check out the Third Man or Dambusters blu reviews on DVD beaver and you'll see how good old films look.

Granted, but most of the time the studios are just pushing out bluray encodings of the original DVD transfer, hence my question.

Well I've got this on both Blu Ray and DVD and I certainly notice the difference! It looks really good on BD and I strongly recommend it.

Check out the following review, should answer all your questions: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1573/laconfidential.html
