Travel Period 24th-31st August
La Tomatina is on so many peoples' Bucket Lists that we thought we'd put a little package together for the 2014 festival- here's our itinerary but you might want to play around with it, add or take out certain elements and totally personalise it:
Sunday 24th & Monday 25th August: BENIDORM Flying into Alicante, you'll pick up your hire car and spend a couple of days at Hotel Iris soaking up the sunshine in Benidorm. If touristy hotspots aren't your thing, just use it as a base to explore the beautiful region before packing up and heading 1hr up the coast to Valencia.
Tuesday 26th & Wednesday 27th: We've found a basic but well rated hotel, Colegio Mayor Galileo Galilei, which serves a killer breakfast just on the outskirts of the historic yet vibrant city of Valencia. Mercado Central is a must, a noisy, traditional market with amazing sights, smells and things to try. You have your rental car, of course, so perhaps you want to get out of the city? Just North of Valencia is Serra d'Espadà, a great place for hikers and climbers alike.
Wednesday 27th: Today is the day! Get your car and head West to Bunol, it's only a half hour drive or if you want to take the bus it takes around an hour. Festivities will start at around 10am so get there early! It's TOMATINA time, a massive food fight and festival right in the heart of Bunol.
Thursday 28th - Sunday 31st: After washing the last of the tomato seeds out of your hair on Thursday 28th, you'll head back South and spend the weekend at Express by Holiday Inn, conveniently located on the outskirts of Alicante giving you the perfect base for more exploration.
We've used Glasgow flights, but you might be able to find better departure airports that suit you-
Let us know what you think and seeya there!
