Okay, I'm a die-hard Western Digital MyBook fan, almost a dozen of them so far without incident, but I can't help being attracted to the design of this LaCie enclosure (with what should be a Seagate drive from what I understand).

Yes, it's technically quite plain but the shiny black and entrancing blue light glow does make me wonder what they'd look like towering on my desk instead of all the MyBooks... must definitely be a pretty sight!

Having said that, dabs.com are doing a clearout and this 2TB flavour is going quite cheapo! £134.72 plus £3.50 for delivery. A lot of money indeed but a good deal based on being cheaper than Amazon and everything else on Google Shopping. Only while stocks last, seems they've been popular...

Manufacturer blurb:

The user-friendly LaCie Hard Drive, Design by Neil Poulton adds sophisticated style to your desktop yet its presence is quiet and unobtrusive. It has a unique distinguishing feature - a cool, blue LED strip on its underside that creates an ambient glow. Its subtle, all-black design blends perfectly into dark home entertainment setups and workstations. Very small for its vast capacity, this lightweight, compact drive has a fashionable, mirror-polished finish. The smartly engineered design allows for heat dissipation and near-silent, fanless operation. Setup is nearly effortless; its plug and play and offers customizable formatting. LaCie '1-Click' Backup Software for PC and Mac is included for quickly saving files in one click.
Highlights of the LaCie 2TB USB 2.0 7200RPM 32MB, Neil Poulton Design

* Surprising blue LED for ambient underside glow
* Smart fanless cooling system for quiet operation
* Store your files, music, photos and videos in one place

Click "Specification" on source link for the specs, it's 7200RPM and 32MB cache, pretty much spot on!

I used dabs once when I bought a monitor, then got an email saying item was now no longer in stock (even when it was showing as instock) and would have to wait for supplier to restock .......well 1 month later and 10s of emails later still no stock. I cancelled .
They are appaulling at answering emails and I was mucked around for ages I will NEVER EVER use this company again and hence would never recommend them.
I am sure many people have had a good experence, but I would be very worried about having to contact them if I had a problem with a item, it seems as if no one cares about any issues.
so up yours dabs!

These do not have NAS capability. You're looking at £225+ for the networked version. I'd say it's not worth it, you can grab a WDTV Live! to playback all pictures, songs and movies including HD 1080p mkv's on your tv off the regular 2TB one AND it has built in networking for you so any and all drives connected to the WDTV Live! can be networked automatically. It's what I use anyway.

Thanks! Should have looked myself, I was just being lazy ;-)
You are right in what you say. If I went for a NAS drive, to stream HD films over the my network I'd need to upgrade my router as well.

Heat added - great find for the price!
